Mary J. Blige Receives 8 Grammy Nominations
Mary J. Blige was the breakout leader with eight nominations as the 49th annual Grammy Awards were announced today at the Music Box at Fonda Theater in Hollywood. Other multiple nominees were the Dixie Chicks, James Blunt, John Mayer, Prince, and the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am.
Nominees for album of the year included the Dixie Chicks’ Taking the Long Way, Gnarls Barkley’s St. Elsewhere, John Mayer’s Continuum, Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Stadium Arcadium.
Blige’s multi-platinum album The Breakthrough was nominated for R&B album of the year, and the hit “Be Without You” earned song of the year and record of the year nods.
The nominees for record of the year are “Be Without You” by Mary J. Blige, “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt, “Not Ready to Make Nice” by the Dixie Chicks, “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, and “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae.
Mayer, Danger Mouse, Prince, producer Rick Rubin, will.i.am, and composer John Williams received five nominations while Beyoncé, Barkley, Timberlake, and T.I. were among those getting four each.
