Lily Allen was so last year. 2008 is all about R&B singer Estelle. The UK import is gearing up to release her second album on John Legend’s Homeschool label via Atlantic. Estelle reminds us of Corinne Bailey Rae mixed with Lauryn Hill (minus the crazy).

Watch the video for her first single “Wait A Minute (Just A Touch),” which was produced by will.i.am. It features a cameo by John Legend. Estelle’s U.S. debut Shine is scheduled to drop on February 12th and will feature production from Swizz Beatz, Mark Ronson, and Wyclef Jean.

Well, she IS jacking Lily Allen’s style, and the music is boring. The lyrics? I can’t hear them.

I may be totally wrong here, and feel free to correct me…but is Estelle not the girl who dropped the 18th Day album back in 2005..and released the singles ‘1980′ and ‘Free’ and therefore it’s not her debut album, nor is she copying Lily Allen – i hate this whole chavy style of singing but yet she won a Mobo for best newcomer..

yes. you guys above are right, this isnt her debut album, and she;s been around in the u.k for quite a while. so RAP-UP just cos maybe its the first time u’ve heard her, (cos she;s jumped on the whole wil.i.am band waggon) dont go and write its her debut, get ur facts straight.

Estelle has only made one good song which is 1980 in my opinion this song is terrible

her album is incredible, her next single by Kanye west is AMAZING!!! and she has a duet with Cee-lo that is out of this world “pretty please” produced by jack splash who did “wreckless love” and “teenage love affair” on alicia keys album,. best 2 songs IMO

R&B singer?? For your information Rap-Up, that woman is a hiphop/soul Singer and EMCEE!!!! She’s hiphop/soul not R&B. And whoever said she’s jacking Lilly Allen, it’s like saying Ciara is jacking Avril Lavigne. TOTALLY DIFFERENT ARTISTS!!! Who the heck is Lilly Allen? She didn’t even have a record deal when Estelle started her career as an underground emcee. Really people need to check their facts. Estelle is FAR from a newcomer and is one of the best HipHop/Soul artist of Europe and of our generation PERIOD regardless of nationality, show respect when respect needs to be shown. That girl won a MOBO Award, she’s no joke, she’s a respected songwriter and lyricist. WHAT THE HECK!!! Show respect!

Estelle is new to the US. The Grammys nominated Amy Winehouse for best new artist this year and she has put out an album before in the UK. I hate when people get so worked up over the term NEW… You all need to calm down and save your energy for more important issues.
