Where would the beat be without the DJ? Your favorite MCs and singers could be droppin’ hits by the boatload and you wouldn’t even know…
That’s why the Pepsi DJ Division honored New York City’s A-list DJs at “Month in the Mix” last Thursday night at Arena in Times Square by throwing them a party with all the glitz, glam, and some of the hottest acts they could find. DJ Enuff started the session off by saying a few words about his peers, DJ Scratch, DJ Drama, Kid Capri, and Clinton Sparks, who were all in attendance.
Soon after, high-energy acts like newcomer Wale, Ryan Leslie, O’Neal McKnight, Juelz Santana, and Jim Jones amped the crowd. The performance that got the most out of the crowd was Q-Tip, who took to the stage to perform his first single “Gettin’ Up” off his new album The Renaissance due this fall, as well as a few more hits. Busta Rhymes unexpectedly joined him on stage later for an impromptu performance of “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”
The jam sesson at Arena succeeded at backtracking a few years what many would declare a purer time in hip-hop, as well as proving that the pioneers are still relevant.
The Pepsi DJ Division “Month in the Mix” will be hitting major urban markets across the country throughout August. Find out when it’s coming to a city near you.
