Timbaland is executive-producing rocker Chris Cornell’s new album Scream (Oct. 14), which is more R&B than rock. Timbaland gives the one-time Soundgarden and Audioslave singer the OneRepublic treatment on his first single, The Clutch-written “Long Gone.” We’re not sure how Cornell’s diehard fans will react to this, but he’s got our attention.
This is hot, now i gotta cop the album when it drops. Hope his fans like it cuz if they support him along w/ new supporters that are into R&B/Pop/Rock that like this he can sell a huge amount of records.
Just because people are listening to his song doesn\’t mean they like it – more likely they\’re curious to hear the definitive style change in Cornell\’s music – as to whether or not hardcore Cornell fan\’s will \
I’ve been a longtime fan of Chris Cornell, especially in his Soundgarden days… and I’m not talking just Superunknown… How about Louder than Love, Fopp, Badmotorfinger? I also listen to bands like Slayer, System of a Down, etc. I play guitar. I love live music. And rock/metal has and always will be my first love. That all said, am I the only one from this side of the fence that is actually excited to see Cornell going the direction he is? I think the main reason rock is losing fans to hip hop, etc. is that the people in control all the way down to the fans seem, for the most part, to be afraid of stepping out of boundaries and experimenting… in other words… of being creative. I hope he acts like a true rock musician and gives the finger to anyone who tries to tell him not to do his own thing. Remember those days? Back when rock musicians actually expanded your horizons? Ah well. I am really looking forward to getting this album.
@David Scott – I’m 100% with you on this. I gave up on being a “rock fan” years ago because of the absolutely terrible attitude towards experimenting the rock community has.
“its crazy to think that i could be reborn
if you’d saved me
now its too late and we’ll never know”
soundgarden is one of the few recent bands i respect with zeppelin, beatles, and stones… in fact, a few years ago when my friends at work quoted 2pac at me, i’d usually hit ‘em back with a C.C. quote from superunknown… anyway, the cover picture up top is hilarious
hahaha, Cornell must be doin drugs again…he thinks he\’s Justin Timberlake. Have to admit that its a pretty good song and i hope the rest of it is as good but i just heard a snippet of what must be some kind of Black Hole Sun remix…my gawd, it made me sick to my stomach, then i puked.
I LOVE Chris Cornell so this is a surprise to say the least. But Cornell has the voice of an angel so i know this will be good. A departure from that 80’s grunge he’s famous for but I like the songs i’ve heard so far!
