M.I.A. has been selected as one of Esquire’s “75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century.” The magazine’s list also includes Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, LeBron James, and Gnarls Barkley’s Danger Mouse.
The Sri Lankan rapper was selected “because she’s the first and only major artist in world music.” M.I.A.’s single “Paper Planes” is currently No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
