Ludacris Hit Originally for Garrett & M.I.A.

You’ve probably heard Ludacris’ hit single “What Them Girls Like” featuring Chris Brown and Sean Garrett, but we bet you didn’t know who it was originally intended for…

The track is the first single off Ludacris’ sixth studio album Theater of the Mind, but it was originally produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins for singer/songwriter Sean “The Pen” Garrett with a guest spot by a certain Sri Lankan artist.

Darkchild revealed exclusively to Rap-Up.com that M.I.A. was supposed to sing the hook (”I know what them girls like”). “It was going to be Sean Garrett and M.I.A., and then [Garrett] got Ludacris to jump on it. When Ludacris heard it, he said, ‘I want that for my album!’”

The two worked out a deal to give Luda the track in return for a guest rap on Garrett’s lead single “Grippin’” off his debut album Turbo 919.

As for M.I.A., Jerkins said he would love to work with the “Paper Planes” rapper. “I would love to work with M.I.A. I love her catchiness and delivery. The fact that she’s underground and now become commercial… It just authentically happened.”

Remember where you heard it first.

Always down with Luda, but the song is still lackluster to me.

It would have been so much better with M.I.A. on it than Chris Brown. Chris’s voice sounded terrible on the track.

First week sales of Afrodisiac were approximately 131,000 copies. The album shipped gold however, total sales according to Soundscan were approximately 416,000. Afrodisiac remains Brandy’s most critically acclaimed and commercially disappointing album to date.

    I’m anxiously awaiting “Human.”

Check out her song with John Legend, “Quickly.” It’s a certified hit.
