Rihanna’s father is upset with the Los Angeles Police Department after a photo of his battered and bruised daughter leaked on Thursday.

“Sloppy work on their part,” Ronald Fenty told PEOPLE after the photo emerged on the Internet.

The LAPD is looking into the leak. “The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence,” said the police in a statement.

“The Department launched an immediate internal investigation and subsequently filed a personnel complaint,” the statement continued. “A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination.”

Today is Rihanna’s 21st birthday. She was supposed to celebrate with a lavish party in New York City, but it was canceled in the aftermath of the events.
