Richgirl: Money in the Bank

Richgirl

Rich Harrison, the producer behind Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” and Amerie’s “1 Thing” has struck gold with his latest project, Richgirl. The R&B group consists of four empowered females who not only look like money, but have the golden pipes to back it up. Rap-Up.com visited with the newcomers last week in the lap of luxury, Beverly Hills, where they introduced themselves and won us over with their opulent voices.

Richgirl includes the spoken-word poet Brave, the Southern belle Lyndriette, church-raised Seven, and the sassy Audra. They formed with the help of Harrison and now live together in Atlanta while finishing their self-titled debut album, due later this summer. Signed to Richcraft/Jive Records, and managed by Chris Brown’s manager Tina Davis, this bankable quartet stays in pocket.

“Our sound is very honest. Each song tells a specific story,” says the curly-haired Brave. “One thing that we want to do is bring the singing back to the songs,” Audra chimes in. “That’s something that’s lacking right now.” Even though they’re quick to point out that their name does not refer to material items, when it comes to their talent, these girls are cash money millionaires.

10 things you should know about Richgirl…

1. Brave is fierce. The Baltimore native brings her spoken-word and street-tinged raps to the group. She was originally signed as a solo artist by Harrison when she was 15.

2. Lyndriette is goofy. She does a mean Shakira impression and the “stankiest-looking grandma dance ever,” which we didn’t get to see in-person because she was wearing a dress. And yes, she’s heard the Beyoncé comparisons.

3. Seven is sweet-n-sour. “How do you describe someone with a split personality?” jokes Audra about her bandmate’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde persona. The Florida gal was discovered through MySpace.

4. Audra is a dork and a prankster. The Jennifer Love Hewitt look-a-like has a dry sense of humor. “She thinks of the craziest things that are so obvious and will recite it as a joke,” says Brave. Audra joined the group through an open audition.

5. They were inspired by En Vogue “as far as the look, the sophistication, and the classiness,” as well as Destiny’s Child, TLC, SWV, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder. “Pretty much anyone that’s been able to really sing.”

6. They describe themselves as a cross between En Vogue and the Spice Girls. “If there was a cross between En Vogue and certain elements of the Spice Girls, that’s what we’d like to bring,” reveals Audra. “The individuality, but yet a whole.”

7. When they’re not working, you can find them in an ATL bowling alley or swimming pool.

8. In addition to Harrison, they’ve recorded with The Underdogs (“Back 2 Da Club”), Bryan-Michael Cox, Dre & Vidal, and KP & Malay for their debut album.

9. As far as style goes, Brave is a Sarah Jessica Parker/Rihanna fashionista, Lyndriette likes a tailored look, Seven prefers anything boho or short, tight, and sexy, and Audra rocks mod fashions.

10. They’ve heard the Electrik Red comparisons, so save them!

Listen to their single, the Rich Harrison-produced “He Ain’t Wit Me Now (Tho),” for which a video was shot in Los Angeles with director Ray Kay.

They thing with girl groups, and groups in general, is that they never style alike anymore. Nowadays, everybody in the group is rocking something totally different when they should be rocking similar outfits like The Supremes did. I mean, that is what makes a group.

IN RESPONSE TO: LV, YOUR ENTITLE TO YOUR OWN OPINION, BUT THIS IS A NEW GENERATION AND EVRY GIRL GROUP OR SINGING GROUP DOES NOT HAVE TO LOOK LIKE THEIR ARE TWINS RAISED FROM THE HIP. INFACT, I LOVE THAT THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERNT STYLES AND ARE NOT SCARED TO SHOW THEIR DIFFERNET PERSONALITIES. IF YOU HAVE HEARD THEM OR SEEN THEM PERFORM THEN YOU WILL KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. IT WOULD DEFFINTLY OUT WAY THIS PHOTOGRAPH. I THINK THEY LOOK GREAT AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GIRLS

I wish Rich Girl all the happness and success. I’m so glade we have a positive girl group out that can sing. I feel there going to go far. They have my support.

Electrick Red there is no comparison to Richgirl at all, what so ever. These are total too different groups, and im finding myselg falling on the richgirl side. I love that there classy, creativity they bring. They have meaning and our fun and flirty with there choices in music picks. The fact that they can sing and there different personalities that make them one. I read that they keep god first and on top of it all there not degrading themselfs. Im really liking these girl the and more and more i see them pop up in this industry.

SILO: And that is why they are flopping left and right. There are no more REAL groups. A group is suppose to be a GROUP. Not individual characters like a solo artist. They do not look like a group. They look like four girls who ran into each other and decided to take a picture. Sigh.

  19. SILO

TO LV: THERE FLOPPING LEFT AND RIGHT BECAUSE MOST OF THESE GIRL GROUP CAN’T SING. THESE GIRL ARE DEFINTLY TALENTED AND THEY HAVE CREATIVTY UNLIKE SOME OF THE GROUPS. ALSO THE OTHER GROUP ONLY TRY TO SELL SEX AND THERE BODIES. THESE GIRL HAVE WAT MORE TO OFFER,BESIDES THEY LOOK LIKE THERE AT AN INTERVEIW OR WHO REALY KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE. ALL I KNOW IS THERE NOT PERFORMING IN THIS PICTURE, BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN THEIR PERFORMENCE AND STAGE OUTFITS AND THEY HAVE IT TOGETHER… HOTT!!!.

If they were all the same then they would be boring. The key to a girl group or a group in general being successful is individuality. I know it doesn’t make sense but think about, people want to relate to a certain member. Look at the Spice Girls, they were all different and that’s why people loved them. You could relate to one of them and everyone had their favorites. They were also incredible performers.

I agree with the writer above, the thing about girl groups is that they never stay together long…there is always some disagreement, arguing and controversy. As far as this song is concerned, it sounds like that damn Beyonce and I am so sick of her and her sound, that fast pace singing is so annoying with every group and artist doing it. As far as the comparison to En Vogue, I would have to say not on this song. The made a comment about singing about something and singing in general and this song didn’t do it for me. They might need to channel EN VOGUE, BROWNSTONE, SWV, Escape, groups like that for inspiration as far as harmonizing and truly singing. I just don’t hear it in this song. I’ll wait until the cd comes out and check it before I write them off.

These girls have described themselves in a unconventional way. I mean En Vogue back in the 90′s where and still is for the most part the most diverse female group in history. In the respect that they did live up to their stage name and did show not only class in their dress, but also proved that they could sing as a quartet. With strong vocals and the interchanging of lead singers made this group the best female stand out group since the Supremes. Even the group Brownstone, though they had issues within the group and only recorded two albums with the original members showcased their powerful vocals. This group Richgirl from the sounds of this first track seems to fall more into the catagory of Destinys Child, not taking anything from DS accept the fact that their music is not that of which a person would listen to for generations to come, but more commercial for it’s time, and reverberates back to being a fad. When these young ladies come out, I’ll listen to the other songs and see what their working with, right now, with the song I just heard, I’m not too impressed.

The first song has to be a ear catcher and have meaning. this song has some funk, a ringer to it and full of creativity with a difference. This is the year of 2009 not 1991. Richgirl are doing what I feel is best. They are bring the sound and sole with a pintch of funcky R&B hiphop/. With everything going on in this world, the sorrow , the negativity, the moral being down in America. we need uplifting, get us up dancing and moving music. they know hoe to harmonize surly, Troy has’nt heard “Some Where over the Rainbow” harmonizing they got it down. RichGirl ha plenty time to show there harmonizing with ballads.
