Rap-Up.com || Beyoncé on MJ: ‘I Wanna Be Just Like Him’

You may have seen this already, but we thought this was one of the more touching tributes to Michael Jackson we’ve seen so far. Beyoncé dedicates “Halo” to her hero, Michael Jackson, while performing on tour in Atlanta last week. She intros the song with a video of her going to see the King of Pop in concert as a child.

“That was the night I saw my hero perform for the first time. When I left the show, I said, ‘Mommy, I wanna be just like him,’” she told the crowd. “We miss you. We love you. And we thank you for all the memories, Michael Jackson.”

that was nice indeed but part of me just doesn’t buy the sincerity. i feel like she’s claimed so many ppl in the past were her idols/heroes (i.e. barbara streisand, etc.). it sounds more like she’s jumping a bandwagon with everyone paying tribute to mj (deservingly so) but yeah, that’s my opinion.

Well my opinion is that she is sincere. As a matter of fact, she openly stated she looked up to MJ years before—in the 2006 World Music Awards when she presented him the Diamond Award; also the Bootylicious video was done in his honor which included dance moves from Thriller.

I agree that many have jumped on the bandwagon saying MJ was their idol, but do not include Beyonce as one of those. And to The Prophet, Beyonce was famous way before she met JayZ, remember Destiny’s Child—and MJ also had his father “controlling” him.

So don’t get ahead og yourself and still speaking of hero she said ‘barbara stresind is her career idol’ cos she did everything in the ent.industry and was successful at everything,she’s won every friggin award and Bey aspires to be like that.
And also its obvious you don’t no Bey,cos if you’ve being following her career you would see the influence from Micheal. I mean going to his concert at just 5yrs old says it all. So don’t get ahead of yourself boo.

Bey. Has many heros and she’s not ashamed to say, you don’t have to have only one hero, I have lot of heros, you could be inspired by a lot of people, she’s looked up to so many artist and always pay her respect cos they paved the way for her.

Well if she truely was inspired by him she would have done a real tribute performance for him on the bet awards. don’t give me that 2 day mess. she is a singer face with last minute things all the time. If she really wanted to honor him she would have stood on stage with mj clothes in front of a mic singing mj songs. but no it was about promoting herself now she wants everyone to by this act. I pray for this generation

I agree you CAN have more than one hero or inspiration…I sure do! I remember seeing that footage of her going to the MJ concert and I think that was Kelly with her.

I thought it was a beautiful performance. I still get sad thinking about his death.

People seem to forget that Beyonce is human. Just because she has fame and money doesn’t mean she has no feelings. MJ was obviously her idol and inspiration…he was that to a lot of other artist too.

I disagree. That was in fact a too short time. She’s not some kinda wedding or party singer who’s on call 24/7 for some special occasions! You expect something grant and give them too little time to prepare? That’s not fair.
I think she did a good job at BET. if she came out and did Single Ladies then you could blame her.
And BTW, she’s still on a heavy tour schedule. I was surprised even she still performed after hearing the news of Michael. She did and she was great

where is the problem with having more than one idols? there are a lot of people you can look up to, so why not?

the problem is, beyonce cant do something without getting hate. it doesnt matter what she does, some of yall are always hating

i’m not the biggest fan of hers too, but she is a great performer…and she is not just a good, she may be not the best dancer, but she can dance and if she is on stage it’s her’s.

She’s always been an MJ fan PLEASE!!! Haven’t you seen the bootylicious video when they did a little bit of the MJ dance during the songs’ bridge, in fact all of D.C. have always been MJ fans. i seriously say bullshit. she is jumping on the bandwagon. yes it may sound sincere but honestly u should have done it on the bet awards. she a performer she had three days to come up with something. and honestly she just dedicated halo to him chnaged some words and add new ones. she could have easily done at the awards. i just feel she is not sincere because she has spoken ill on the family in the past and him and now she dedicated something to him. every family has a trouble in the childhood and no one but michael and the family should speak about the problems. so she is a hypocrite. good perform and i guess she can act now.

Well you damn near there Bee!! lol She’s the closest thing we have to MJ today when it comes to entertaining/performing. No one will ever compare to MJ, besides James Brown, but it’s nice to see the few artists with at least half as much talent and expertice as MJ. Beyonce being one of them.

How many times are we going to go thru the betawards issue. Beyonce already rehearsed I’ll be there/halo for the awards and at last minute, Stephen Hill of bet said No and switched it up, they decided that she should do ave maria- and if you listen closely to the words, it was dedicated to Micheal, with excerpt from ANGEL.
Don’t say what you don’t know, and she never said anything about Michael, she’ll never do that, maybe she referred to he’s father but not Michael, get your facts right and stop blabbing!

Duh. She made that comment because of Joe Jackson. And I think everyone knows that he was an abusive parent who took advantage of his kids. That was a right on comment.

That was very touching. Nobody can say that this girl did not respect this man. Y’all stop this foolishness about her she is GREAT at what she does. And it truly shows that she was definatly inspired that night because it shows in all of her performances she give 1000%!

I love this tribute and I am sure that he was honored for such a tribute as well.

Hey, Beyonce is a very sincere person. She really looked up to him. If you check in her single ladies video you would see that she got her dance move from him in thriller, which i loved. I think she’s the female version to mj. She’s damn good. I give her that, and to you all who thinks she did surgery, she didn’t. :P go check all her photos of when she was younger.
