Why Was Drake Not on Jay-Z’s Single?

Jay-Z and Drake

Jay-Z shocked the world with his new single, but was it a surprise to Drake when he didn’t hear himself on the highly-anticipated track?

There had been reports that the Canadian MC was to be featured on “Off That,” the follow-up to “D.O.A.,” from Jigga’s Blueprint 3. Instead, he released “Run This Town” featuring Kanye West and Rihanna.

“I don’t know who came up with that rumor to be honest, but I always knew what Jay’s first single was going to be,” the “Best I Ever Had” rapper told the BoomBox. “Me and Jay did a lot of work together. Maybe at one point he was considering doing it and someone got over-excited and put out a press release that I was going to be on the first single.”

Jay-Z also weighed in on the absence of Drake. “It’s very difficult to know what’s going to be my next single,” he explained to DJ Semtex. “I really just played a couple [potential] records and everybody ran with it. But I’m still making records.”

So what did Drake think of Hov’s new single? “I think Jay made a great choice,” he said. “I think the ‘Run This Town’ song is phenomenal. I think Kanye kills that shit. I actually heard that song when it was a Rihanna track.”

As of right now, Drake is scheduled to appear on The Blueprint 3, along with Kid Cudi, Mr Hudson, and MGMT.

i think the song would be hotter without Kanye. Only Jay and Rihanna that’s enough but without a question is a phenomenal record.

For me the summer song of 2009!! cant wait for the video!!

in my opinion and i know many others too if it wasnt for kanyes verse on run this town that song would be garbage. It seems that when everybody hears a new jay z song they automatically think its hot cause its a jay z song. People get stuck in that mindset like, “omggg its the new jay z single, oh man its fire”. but after giving it a first listen, Kanyes part was the only thing that i liked about the song. I think many people can agree with me on this!

I feel you guys on the Kanye verse pure heat. The has nice feel to it as well. Rhianna contribution was decent. As for Jay his verse was good but I have heard better from him. Overall good track but nothing out of this world. Still interested in B.P.3 though

RUN THIS TOWN= PURE GARBAGE..EVEN KANYE COULD NOT SAVE THAT SONG..HE WAS THE BEST PART BUT THAT IS IT..

RIHANNA NEEDS TO PUT THE MIC DOWN..INSTEAD OF TAKIN PICTURES SHE SHOULD TAKE VOCAL LESSONS..HER NASAL SINGING AND THE YOODLING IN THE MIDDLE MADE MY EARS BLEED!!I CANT EVEN LISTEN TO THE SONG COZ OF HER!!!

maybe cuz jay-z tried to sign drake to hiz new label, roc nation, but, drake a smart business man. he knew dat jigga would rip him off like he did rihanna.

maybe dats why rihanna was after drake in da 1st place. she just using him for fresh music and to lure him into drake signing wit roc nation but dont think rihanna is doin all of dis fo free, im she she on da payroll sumwhere.

rihanna contributed absolutely nothing to this song. Now i know i’m gonna get alot of flack for this, but if rihanna and bey “alternated” chorus’s and then came together at the end for the last hoook…that WOULDA BEEN SICK! Listen to the track, and i can hear beyonce’s powerful vocals all over that hook.

Think “Hey Nas” Feat. Claudette Ortiz & Kelis from Nas’s Album..”GodSon”. Perfection.

And then in the video, the four of them standing their like fuckin boss’s in all black. OMG…who is feeling what i’m saying?

@goons: rihanna’s singing may be the weakest part of the track but come on, it’s not that bad. you’re just hating

i’m mad Rihanna upstages Jigga on his own single! She’s doing what she did to TI on “Live Ya Life”…her choruses are so strong that they overshadow everybody else. Get it girl!

Drake is aight, but I don’t think he would’ve killed it like the three of them did.

and Jay should’ve even have to explain himself. please

The songs perfect the way it is!

Can’t wait to see a video for it!!!
