Rap-Up.com || Mariah Covers Foreigner on New Single

Mariah Carey is entering foreign territory with her new single.

The diva will release “I Want to Know What Love Is” as the next single off Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. The song is a cover of the 1984 hit by British-American rock band Foreigner.

SHOWBIZ 411′s Roger Friedman offered praise after getting a sneak peek at the album. “Mariah’s got a hit on her hands along the lines of Emancipation of Mimi,” he wrote. “The hour-long CD is ballad-centric. Written and produced with The-Dream and Tricky [Stewart], Memoirs boasts a lot of singles.”

Carey will release her twelfth studio album on September 29 featuring the tracks “Betcha,” “Obsessed,” “H.A.T.E.U.,” “Candy Bling,” “Ribbon,” “Standing Os,” “Impossible,” “It’s a Wrap,” “Inseparable,” “Up Out My Face,” “More Than Just Friends,” and “Angels Cry.”

WTF?! are you serious??? she’s going to cover this song? OMG no originality at all!!! she needs to write her on shit, im tired of hearing about her “being one of the greatest artists”…. she is ok but not all that when it comes down to being an artist… this song is a classic and i hope she doesn’t mess it up!

It should be a great song, the feedback has been very positive so far. Great review by Roger Friedman he is one of few journalists who you can really trust,he gives such detail when describing the songs from the album.

R U SERIOUS? Shes taking this classic song and remaking it. 4 words………WHERE IS THE ORIGINALITY? A huge artist like Mariah remaking a song like this is a bad move. she can pretty much work with any producer and songwriter in the music industry and even they cant get her that original power ballad. Its obvious that Whitney is the reason for her releasing a ballad cause even on her last 2 albums she didnt have any big ballads except We belong together off emancipation of mimi but i dont consider that a ballad Shes taking the easy way out I guess shes screaming for another #1 to put to her others. Not hating im just speaking the truth!

I think she’s gonna sound amazing on this!! Mariah has been doing cover songs for a while though, so why are people acting like this is new? And how is that ‘no originality’? Artists do it all the time!

leela james’ version was pure hotness
wonder how mariah’s would sound like…i think they made it a little more modern
and as said, mariah always covered songs and they were hits! where is the problem?
you can cover a song and be original too, sometimes its even harder cause you have to bring your own note into it.
but didnt know why they did not release h.a.t.e.u., cause the snippet which leaked a couple weeks ago was hot…
against all odds is one of my favourites by her and i love “i wanna know what love is”, so i am optimistic with it

Everybody knows Mariah writes her songs and sprinkles in a few covers now and then. That just shows her respect for the work of other artists, too. Hard to box Mariah up, isn’t it? LOL
