New Music: Whitney Houston – ‘Salute’

Whitney Houston

R. Kelly writes and produces “Salute,” one of our favorite tracks off Whitney Houston’s new album I Look to You (Aug. 31). “Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years,” Whitney sings over the marching beat.

WOW…people think she’s back?!?!? Maybe physically but vocally she doesn’t sound anywhere near what she used to. I guess people will let that fact go since she’s been gone for so long. Why don’t people criticize her and her voice like they do Mariah?? Always double standards!!!!

@ Whitney Who b/c all MC does is lip sync and whisper I don’t consider that singing at all. Whitney is clearly SANGIN and doing HER OWN background vocals. That says a lot for a person who many claimed would never be able to sing again. I think she sounds great.

people dont criticize whitney because she puts out solid material when she does step out into the limelight. and she can undeniably sang! not so much now because of the damage she has done but she is still great in her own light.

mariah pushes out horrible singles for the sake of keeping her name in the media. her voice is almost completely destroyed, she cant hit any notes. its not a double standard, its just quality vs manufactured.

whit puts out soild music ? yeaaa right. her last album floped horribly. all whits leaks have carried the same content (million dollar bill aside) the woe is me songs are geting boring and unoriginal. how can yu say mariahs Manufactured? she has always wrote/produced her own music / whit cant say the same. obsessed is the only track yu can be speaking of with the “head lines” comment, and i guess a #11 debut on the hot 100 with out any promo or video makes it horribe, really & everyone just assumed it was about em, moreless what does it matter? Mariahs voice isnt gone, if it was she wouldnt be getting praised for the new material on her Album & the 2006 grammy performace where she got a standing ovation, i mean dont talk if yu dont know s h i t . a few poor performance doesnt qualify as loosing your voice, it means she better bring it this time around.

I have to give respect where its do….. Whitney is singing period. point blank…. she has nothing to prove to anyone….. thats been done … she has records that have yet to be broken, enough said! Personally I love that a 46 yr old is acting like one! How about that!

Cash, WTF are you talking about. When did Mariah fuckin Carey become a producer/songwriter? You dont have to answer that question because THERE IS NO ANSWER. Dont jump on a music forum site throwing your 2 cents in some shit without facts.

LMAO@ Mariah got a standing ovation grammy’s 06′. Whitney has gotten a standing ovation more times than any performer in modern history after performing. She gets standing ovations when she walks on stage JUST to talk. She is so loved and respected and is the ultimate performer, something Mariah NEVER was, even in her prime. Mariah Carey has the soul and stage performance of a gnta. Whitney has had people STANDING OVATIONS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PERFORMANCE BEFORE THE SONG WAS OVER! Whitney has always shat on Mariah vocally, studio and live. Everyone knows this.

    songwriting is different from singing.

    hahaha.

besides, when it comes to standing ovations, how many times have you seen someone singing and in the middle of the song, people stood up clapping all the way until the singer finishes the song? that’s love baby. pure love to whitney houston.
