One of our favorite cuts off Mariah Carey’s new Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel album is The-Dream and Tricky Stewart-produced “Standing O.” K-pop fans have alerted us to a song from Korean girl group 2NE1 called “In the Club” that sounds rather similar to MC’s. Listen to both and tell us what you think.
Are you all r’tards? The only similarities is that its two women saying “oh” several times. If this is “copying”, then you could list hundreds of “copycats”. Get a life & report on things that are actually relevant.
LOL this is so funny to me !
Whoever thought this was copying needs help.
One word? Cmon. I could understand if it was a few verses .. but a word? Seriously? Puhleaseee
The power of the STAN. Mariah said it best – “you’re delusional, boy you’re losing your mind.” if you cant hear the similarities, you should get your ears checked.
wow i would have never thought i’d read about 2ne1 on rap-up. lol. I love them(even though I don’t know korean) and i like the mariah song but honestly there’s no real issue. If it was this easy to label someone a “plagiarizer” a bunch of artists would be getting sued on the regular. There is a similarity but not big enough to matter. and there’s no need for the stans to get all upset either
Give Me A F*cking Break. By saying “Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh” she is copying some hack K-Pop chicks? Sounds like somebody is thirsty for a story to get clicks. *whistles and looks in Rap-Up’s General direction*
look how’s sayin stupid germaine…wateva fool!
Mariah is genuine , she is insipirational to otha new artiste out there…she writes her own stuff…doesnt matter wat u say she rox!
A few days ago, Mariah Carey’s new song, “Standing O” teaser was released on Youtube. Comparing this song to “In the Club”, you get 8 bars of similar parts. It is 24 seconds, instead of 5 seconds, also has it as its major motive, and adding up the similar parts together, results in approximately 1 minute. What is Sony ATV’s opinion towards this song? I don’t know, but I am sure that you can’t easily say that Mariah Carey has plagiarized 2NE1’s song that was released 3 months ago, although it contains longer and clearer motives from “In the Club”.
Direct from Yang Hyun-Seok or YG the entertainment that 2NE1 is from!
MC and Dream/Tricky would have to have heard their music in order to copy. How lame. In fact if anything standing O’s, oh’s sound similar to Rihanna on Umbrella and since Dream/Tricky wrote that, they should sue the Korean group LOL. Keep it moving any way. LOL
PLZZZZ STANDING O SOUNDS NUTHIN LIKE THAT SONG EXCEPT THE “OH OH OH OH” PART AND THEN THAT PART SOUNDS TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND THE DREAM WROTE THAT SONG N ITS PLENTY OF SONGS THAT HAVE THE SIMILAR OHHH THAT STANDING O HAS…PLZZZZ MC IS NOT A COPYCATER AND MC DIDN’T WRITE THAT SONG!
Hello???? If anything these girls are copying MC’s song SIDE EFFECTS which has the oh oh oh part. If anything Standing O sounds a bit like SIDE EFFECTS, which is an MC song anyways!!!!!!!!

you can’t deny the fact that the melody is very similar and i dont think they asked for a 15 minute fame, if you look into it, it was the sony atv that started the whole thing, apparently a korean rapper’s new song had a 5 sec rapping that was very similar to flo-rida’s right round
again this is a similar case, i guess they were just asking to look into justice just because flo-rida and mariah carey are international stars doesn’t mean they cant push around more less international recognized singers

Yup i think their songs sounds similar but not made by the same idea i’m Asian and know 2NE1 well though this girl group rocks i bet they could go to promote ‘em tunes in the US someday :-)
Both songs could have very well been inspired from a song called falesto-The dream love hate 2007- (go see youtube) but you would have to be a serious music appreciater with instrumental skills to figure and imagine the methods on how to make
a melody, which derived from a same inspiration or feeling, into a somewhat diffrent or even new looking melody. The studio mixed sounds, differnce in gain of voice, use and highlights of various types of instrument at different scale- they can give real new and diffrent feeling at least on the surface of superficial-even if thye actually orginated from the same melody and nuisance technique.
Clearly not all songs are 100% original, they all had been inspired from something, the past achievements. K-Pop girl group 2NE1 and MC both portray quite similarities in thier hook-melody of “0h” also with its unique repetitive sounds of nuisance. And MC’s standing O is composed by the dream (same artist for the Falesto). Then the important question is can mC’s standing O composers and copyrights owners give a comprehensive and clear explanation to assure tha fans free from listening of stealing plagiarism and also keep thier heads high as arists and not cahching-money diggers. I think MC’s standing O can provide such answer as they should. By the way 2NE1, the Korean Pop girl group (not Japs-you ignorants) should also give expository stateement clearly explaining where they got thier inspiration and refernce hook melodies for thier song in the club released 2 month prior to MC’s standing O.
Oh, ona very differnt note, for those you do not care yet riducule the serious thinkers on popular content plagirism, stealing is considered to be a grave matter in all affairs of life. Please do get a real life and improve your literature of right ideas. Plagiarism is like assualt on your money only indifferntly approved by our peers. Man have some decency of caring so that we can actully buy and enjoy real music.

the simple explanation is that both refrains are mediocre. I love Mariah, and I love standing O, but when the industry keeps re-inventing the wheel, two artists are bound to repeat the same two notes. Both are probably ripoffs of something else. Most likely Umbrella, which Dream wrote anyway.
I don’t wanna say that both song is similar,
but it’s too similar..
Although only 15 seconds it is similar melody
Unfortunately, but i can’t deny the fact
that it is similar song.
Rihanna “umbrella”
-> copy -> 2ne1 “in the club”
-> copy -> Carey “standing o”
But, you know what?
umbrella’s wirter and standing o’s writer is same person.
so. Who is the REAL copywriter??
YG sucks.
ok i did not want to do this but before you all scream saying mariah plagiarized. you might want to get a history lesson of the company in questioned called yg. here are a little something something. first song is called forever with you by big bang
omfg grr since they wont let me post links just look up the following songs. my bad for the spam rap up.
the following are yg artist songs.
big bang forever with you vs mariah carey’s we belong together
g dragon heartbreaker vs flo rida right round
g dragon this love vs maroon 5’s this love
big bang with u vs joe’s rock with u
2ne1 i dont care vs lionel richie just go
g dragon butterfly vs oasis she’s electric
g dragon’s the leaders or wassup vs snoop dogg’s drop it like it is hot
2ne1 fire vs kat deluna whine up
so anyway right now sony atv is calling yg plagiarizers. as a result yg mentioned in a letter about mariah song. therefore that is the only reason she got bought up. now that it is settled have a nice day and move on from this bs story about mariah plagiarizing them.
since we all know who the real plagiarizers are :D

who the hell cares
as long as the musics good im fine
just respect that =.=
its not like any of u haters r any better
if i were u id just shut the hell up and not even bother to comment on this n remark about how shit this is …
if u have time to write these craps spend ur time wisely n comment on something u like for a change
n just saying it doesnt only happen with yg it happens with all the other ppl too like 4 minute or wtv they’r called 5 minute ’s song “music” sounds ridiculously similar to boom boom pow by black eyed peas why r people not commenting on this too? just sayin …
what i thing if there was a ghost righter he might had just made money off both arts they both sound the same long o short o its the same intro dont blame the arts blame righter who got paid !!!!!!!!!! :-)
isnt the person just proving the point that maybe they shouldnt be making it a big deal when all this crap is biased, only popular musicians r being picked on n its pretty unfair
n just bc this is about yg doesnt mean u can bring in other references
so what if it makes korea look bad if it does then maybe they should look back at their musical talents when they cant come up with their own
u cant deny the similarities in the songs
This song was clearly plagiarized. 24 seconds of the song was completely SIMILAR to 2ne1’s song ‘in the club.’ I mean if they sound almost alike with a few beats and maybe some notes higher or lower, sure, I’ll let it slide. But the whole idea that if you put both of those “oh oh oh” parts together, its similar. Now, idiots. I’m not talking about the lyrics that was plagiarized, I’m talking about the music itself. They sound similar, not for 5 seconds, but for a whole 24, that’s like copying and pasting a whole paragraph from a website onto your research paper without citing. Now, what would your school do about it? They’ll freaking expel you and make sure that you’ll never get back in and even possibly lose your entire future or chance to go back into College. It’s the same thing with clothing. You can’t just go into Anthropologie and take their shirt and make an EXACT duplicate of the shirt without any dramatically changes to it. You’ll get sued like how Forever 21 did. If I was 2ne1’s company, I’d sue MC up the ASS. She’s losing her vocal talent. Sure, she was a hit before she disappeared, but ever since she came back to the music industry, sorry MC fans, but she isn’t all that anymore.
And MC fans, I respect that you’re sticking up to your favorite artist and I respect that, but the truth is the truth. Don’t sugar coat it. Just be thankful that she didn’t get slammed hard.
It’s not the “Oh” that MC copies. Plagiarism doesnt mean copying the lyrics. It’s the beat/sound. If you listen to it closely and in an unbias view, the beat sounds very similar.
sorry to break it to the MC fans but whilst MC was in korea she had indirectly admitted that she did feel guilty about it as she refused to answer anything about it
September 24th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Wow. Both are similar but I don’t think Mariah or The Dream or even Tricky would copy or sample someones song without them knowing about it.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
more like Standing UH-O. that is NOT a good look. but it’s a common melody. …right?
September 24th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Haha, they are both saying “Oh.” I wouldn’t call that copying. Sounds like unnecessary drama.
September 24th, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Oh please it’s obvious that The-Dream and Tricky stole this.
I don’t think Mariah even wrote her new album with all those demos leaking, plus the lyrics are so much like The-DReam its not even funny.
Mariah is definitely a songwriter but she totally let the pen slip on this one and still took the credit, EG Beyonce.

a melody, which derived from a same inspiration or feeling, into a somewhat diffrent or even new looking melody.

LOL. It doesn’t sound similar to me.
September 25th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
the simple explanation is that both refrains are mediocre. I love Mariah, and I love standing O, but when the industry keeps re-inventing the wheel, two artists are bound to repeat the same two notes. Both are probably ripoffs of something else. Most likely Umbrella, which Dream wrote anyway.

September 26th, 2009 at 10:58 am

September 26th, 2009 at 7:16 pm

September 26th, 2009 at 10:59 pm

But, you know what?
umbrella’s wirter and standing o’s writer is same person.

YG sucks.

who the hell cares
as long as the musics good im fine
just respect that =.=
its not like any of u haters r any better
if i were u id just shut the hell up and not even bother to comment on this n remark about how shit this is …
if u have time to write these craps spend ur time wisely n comment on something u like for a change
n just saying it doesnt only happen with yg it happens with all the other ppl too like 4 minute or wtv they’r called 5 minute ’s song “music” sounds ridiculously similar to boom boom pow by black eyed peas why r people not commenting on this too? just sayin …
September 28th, 2009 at 10:56 am
this story is about yg and not about those other copycats. you do know you are making korea look more bad when you bring up those other plagiarizers?
September 28th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
what i thing if there was a ghost righter he might had just made money off both arts they both sound the same long o short o its the same intro dont blame the arts blame righter who got paid !!!!!!!!!! :-)
September 30th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
isnt the person just proving the point that maybe they shouldnt be making it a big deal when all this crap is biased, only popular musicians r being picked on n its pretty unfair
n just bc this is about yg doesnt mean u can bring in other references
so what if it makes korea look bad if it does then maybe they should look back at their musical talents when they cant come up with their own
u cant deny the similarities in the songs
October 3rd, 2009 at 4:08 am
totally copied :P sound just like in the club
October 19th, 2009 at 12:04 am
You guys are clearly musically challenged.
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 am
It’s not the “Oh” that MC copies. Plagiarism doesnt mean copying the lyrics. It’s the beat/sound. If you listen to it closely and in an unbias view, the beat sounds very similar.
October 30th, 2009 at 3:45 am
The fact is clear that 2ne1’s In the club was released in the first instance.
October 30th, 2009 at 3:59 am
@G-Dragonball,
The writers of In the club and Standing O is twins???
November 10th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
AND IT’S ALSO CLEAR THAT…
2ne1(yg)plagiarized lionel richie’s just go!!!
December 9th, 2009 at 8:34 am
sorry to break it to the MC fans but whilst MC was in korea she had indirectly admitted that she did feel guilty about it as she refused to answer anything about it
January 17th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Mariah got a lot of cases against her for song plagiarism.
