Early sales reports for Mariah Carey’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel are in.

The 12th studio album from Carey is on track to move 160-170,000 units in its first week based on one-day sales, reports Hits Daily Double. This would give the pop diva a No. 2 debut. She faces competition from punk-rock band Paramore, who is approaching the No. 1 spot with their third effort Brand New Eyes (180-190,000).

If those numbers prove accurate, the “Obsessed” singer would have her lowest first week since 2001′s Glitter (116,000).

Can MC inch out Paramore for the top spot? Six more days to go before the final numbers are in.

she has a lot of promotion during the end of the week and into the weekend, so that could boost her into a bigger debut week and may even help her get to number one.
as a fan, i don’t really care about sales. she made a great album and that’s what matters.

MC needs to hang it up and focus on acting or something ’cause that album SUCKED the only song that was any where near enjoyable was “I Want To Know What Love” is it was like Mariah was able to revisit the 90s but too bad it took her stealing an old song to do it but it sounds good but MC needs to hang it up she lacks originally now and is a FOLLOWER instead of settings trends she now follows them

Damn…the album LEAK and all the free listening to the album before the release has really hurt MCs album sales!!!!! I hope she can recover the sales quickly. The album is REALLY GOOD and doesn’t deserve bad sales.
I think people are trying to prevent MC from getting more #1s and continuing to be successful…therefore the album leak. A lot of people really don’t like the idea of MC surpassing Elvis and the Beatles. I hope Mariah KICKS their Asses!!!!!!!

I’m not making excuses for her. I don’t think she’s been EVERYWHERE; you can’t deny that the amount of promo from this album has a lot less than how she was doing for E=MC2.
If Mariah was a follower, she would have worked with Lil Wayne, Drake, T-Pain, etc. Those are the guys who’re hopping on a lot of songs right now, but she didn’t follow that trend. She made a mostly ballad/midtempo record with no guest appearances. Could she have done a trendy record and have it sell well? Probably. Am I glad she didn’t? Hell yeah.
Oh, and she didn’t “steal” the song; she covered it. There’s a difference.
But it’s whatever. I’m sorry you didn’t like it and I respect your opinion, man. Peace and love.

Well, this is just her first week sales. Besides the album has only been out 2 days now. Once her new video drops and The TODAY Show airs her sales will most likely go up. ALL of Mariah’s albums goes Platinum/Multi-Platinum so there’s no need to be worried.

It’s no surprise Paramore will beat her. Mariah’s been tanking in terms of mass popularity for a while, and the teenybopper crowd actually buys CDs/digital downloads. They have disposable income (well their parents do) and we’re in a recession. New Mariah CD or $10-$15 in groceries? Groceries are going to win out.

Wow some of you guys need to chill out. If Mariah reaches number one then she reaches number but let’s be honest here. Mariah isn’t the Mariah she once was in the music industry. Since Mimi album she hasn’t been strong in sales period. E=MC2 sold 2.5 million worldwide which is a FLOP compared to Mimi which sold 10 million worldwide. Yes E=MC2 had Mariah’s highest first week sales but it had no longevity due to average singles released. Now if Memoirs sales 160,000-170,000 and still reaches number it will be looked at as a failure no matter what due to low sales. Janet had the same problem with her latest album Discipline. Now Mariah needs to hope that her future singles will have some impact because if not we may look at another label switch up from her. Also lets face it Mariah isn’t a blockbuster when it comes to tour meaning she doesn’t gross the amount of money as Madonna, P!nk, Britney, or Beyonce. Fact is that Mariah is at a point where she might face another career fallout but time will only tell.

Where was release day concert (GMA/Today), Live w/ Regis & Kelly, Ellen, 106 & Park, etc. The things you are mentioning are not within the scope of album promotion. Those happened awhile back. Not a smooth move Island Def Jam.

I agree that the promotion for MOAIA hasnt been good. Perhaps becus IDJ did so much promo for the bad cd e=mc2 & they didnt see a return on the $ they spent, they have scaled back for this cd.
Memba e-mc2 JUST came out last year in April.
4 a singer–not an artist like Ri or MAdonna as MC actually sings!– like MC w her talent & history, I think she shoulda been on all the shows. As hi altitude of airplanes affects her voice she shoulda split up her promo, or asked shows if could she tape appearances or sing via satellite. MC shoulda been in Cali the 1st half on Larry King, Ellen, Leno, Conan, & those horrible dance shows. Then the end of the week she shoulda done GMA, early show, today show, kelly & regis. For the 2nd week to keep up notice of her cd she needs to hit up all those many shows is NY : tyra, wendy williams, rachael ray, martha stewart. MC going on Oprah was smart as the mighty O always causes a boost, & I hope it pays off.
IDJ clearly isnt doing a full promotional force.
But MC too has $300mill. If MC’s cds are truly for the fans as she says & she feels the cd is worthy, I MC should step up do spend a small $100,000 of her own on promo. Afterall MC demanded
-$160 @ her macy’s meet & greet for her stinking ‘forever’ perfume, a pic, & an autograph! WTF? I thought she loved her lamms?
-sold her cd booklet to ELLE magazine so the cd booklet is a giant ad for that magazine
(the cd also includes promo for the movie ‘Precious’)
