Michael Jackson Rules AMA Nominations![]() Michael Jackson’s presence is still being felt. Although he didn’t release a new studio album in the last year, the King of Pop reigns over this year’s American Music Awards nominees.
The late pop star scores five nominations at the 37th annual show, behind country music star Taylor Swift with six. Other multiple nominees include Eminem with four and Beyoncé, T.I., Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, and Kings of Leon with three apiece. Lady Gaga, Eminem, Kings of Leon, Michael Jackson, and Taylor Swift will compete in the coveted Artist of the Year category. Jackson is no stranger to the AMAs. He has collected 22 of the crystal trophies in the past, taking home eight awards in one year alone for 1983′s breakthrough album Thriller. He also co-hosted the first annual show in 1973. In the rap/hip-hop category, Eminem, Jay-Z, and T.I. face off for Favorite Male Artist, while Beyoncé, Keyshia Cole, and Keri Hilson vie for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist. Snoop Dogg, Paula Abdul, and Adam Lambert were on hand to reveal the nominees at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday, where Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez, and Lambert were announced as performers. Kanye West, whose chart-topping 808s & Heartbreak album was released last November, was noticeably absent from all categories. The 2009 American Music Awards will air live from Los Angeles’ NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on Sunday, November 22, at 8 p.m. EST/PST on ABC. Click here for the full list of nominees. Nominations are a joke, no Kayne but Michael Jackson has 5. He hasn’t even released a album :S The AMA’s makes the VMA’s look like the Grammys.

Kanye doesn’t deserve any nominations at this point, and i’m a fan of his.
it was nice to nominate Michael, but they should have done this while he was here going through his troubles.

No disrespect to the late MJ, but these nominations all seem over-indulgent. If the AMA’s intention is to pay homage to the ‘king of pop’, they could just show it by way of a tribute performance. This just goes to show falsehood with supposed “award shows.”

Britney got snubbed, period. She had the highest grossing tour of 2009 in the U.S., she had the second biggest opening week sales for a female artist last year and two huge top ten singles (one of them being “Womanizer” which went #1). I understand that the AMA’s nominates differently than alot of other award shows but there is no reason why Britney shouldn’t be nominated for atleast one award.
I also don’t blame them for not giving Kanye any nominations.

This is based of sales, since Michael died, he has has an huge sales increase, so stop direpecting the King by saying he doesnt deserve the nominations

People can bitch all they want. Thing is, that album’s sold more than anybody.
And Michael hosted the first AMA’s.
Every award show is going to pay tribute and homage to him in some way. Let them do their way. ugh.
Grammy’s, yall should start planning.

I can see why MJ was nominated for several awards. And it has nothing to do with paying homage to him (although I’m sure they’ll do that as well). The AMAs based their nominations on actual record sales. At the AMAs, it’s possible to win an award for an album that came out years ago if the record started some real heat during the current year. Right after MJ died, people started buying his records again, and shot him back to the top. He’s still on top on iTunes. So it’s only fair that gets some recognition for that.
