Jay-Z’s Humble Advice for Rihanna

Jay-Z and Rihanna

When Rihanna first got a taste of success, Jay-Z gave her some advice that she’s carried with her ever since.

In an interview with Touré for “On the Record with Fuse,” RiRi shared her former Def Jam boss’ advice. “In the beginning of my career, I remember ‘Pon De Replay’ started doing really well, and he came up to me at a showcase and he said, ‘You must be a really great person because great things keep happening for you. Don’t every change who you are, always remain humble, the same,’” she said.

The superstar, whose career soared to new heights after her first hit, will never forget Jay’s words. “It kind of rings in my ear. Every day I hear that and it stuck with me. I have a lot to be grateful for.”

    Photographs is absolutely amazing track…….WOW! Now that i hear it i understand why Rihanna wanted the song so bad from Will I Am. Its going to be a timeless song something that can be played forever, not just a song of the year and moment. Rated R is a classic just from that song in my opinion!

    I wish you people would shut up. If she would’ve stayed the same since “Pon de replay” you still would be talking shit. She can’t please everybody. People change with time and so does image.

    @Giselle,

    I can’t speak for anybody else there…but I wouldn’t be talking down on her.

    True, she wouldn’t have been nearly as rich & famous if she had stayed the same…But she’d always have a loyal core of fans!

    To me, a small & loyal group of fans is better than a broad base of “fair-weather” types.

    @Giselle, These people think they know her cause they watched an video and saw some promo shots. They need to relax and look in the mirror and judge themselves before claiming a person is this way or that way. Having met her and knowing people that have she is very humble and nice. As Toure said himself she is very much “a lady”.

    Now that i heard the full Rated R album, its safe to say that Rihanna has truely grown as an artist. She can talk about things in her music that other artists cant cause they havent gone threw it. Real life experiences always make for good music. But this album has so much depth which is so important in a good album. She has uptempo, midtempo, ballads, i dont know why some people are saying this album sucks cause there just lying to themselves.

    “Yeah, she changed. She cut her hair and shes mean”….(sarcasm) You people are a trip. The girl has grown but still is a very humble girl that loves what she does and knows shes been lucky. Shouldn’t expect anything more or anything less.

    What is she talking about towards the end of the first part of the interview? We saw her EVERYWHERE in between now and the Clive Davis party. She was going to clubs, going to fashion shows, etc.

    I also feel like she tries to hard to come off intelligent but she fails all the time especially when she can’t even pronounce her favorite Mariah Carey song. It’s “Vision of Love”, not “Visions”. Also, artists like Mariah are not your “peers”. Keep dreaming.

    @Robin,

    That’s what i thought- Celine, Mariah, Whitney, and Shania are NOT your peers….. they are powerhouse divas with millions and millions sold and standards in the music industry- every singer man or woman studies their songs- just like Rihanna did- so they can prove they can sing.

    But, I love Rated R. The ballads are what make this albumb the best. Pay attention to the lyrics- so magnificent and full of meaning- like Rihanna said poetry.

    rihanna is a poser. she has no creativity, and shes the most manufactured artist out there right now. Her “good girl gone bad” phase is a joke.
    At least artists like beyonce, gaga, shakira have an obvious creative power in their albums. Rihanna doesnt do anything, shes just a tool for def jam.

    the thing that i like in regards to rihanna is the simple fact that she has never waved a flag that said i am this and that. she has slowly did her thing and she must be doing something right(humble) because theres so many who dreams about her sexy behind day in and day out. she is still learning as she go, and my question is to those of you who do not know how to carry a tune in a brown paper bag just how can you top rihanna??

    if i could dress like i wanted to, look hottttt as all get out eat at five star places and see the world and sleep between 3000-thread sheets. rihanna has learned that she has to let go of yesterday turn the dam page and move on. once you let go of the worry, dispointments, being offended day in and day out , bitterness then you can start seeing the sunshine shine through, but as long as you walk around mad with the world and feel that the world owns you something you are shuting your sunshine off and you have nothing but dark and gloomy days. and when you move on there will be new people who comes into your life to give you r life new meaning.
