Despite reports of a reconciliation, Rihanna says she hasn’t been in contact with her estranged father in over a year.
Ronald Fenty, 56, told the Sunday Mirror that he wants to mend his relationship with his daughter. “Robyn is going around saying I don’t want to be in touch with her,” he said to the British newspaper. “I leave messages for her but I never hear back. I want nothing more in this world than to see my daughter again and to be part of her life.”
While visiting Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show on Tuesday, Rihanna was questioned whether her father had tried to reach out. “Really?” asked the surprised singer. “That sounds very strange to me since I’ve been the one trying to reconcile with him forever.”
The 21-year-old superstar claimed she has made every effort to reconcile, but has not been successful. “I have not heard from my father in over a year. I reached out to him. I did my part, so now it’s on him,” she explained, while describing what he did that upset her. “He turned his back on me and went to the media and he got paid to talk about stuff, all these little interviews he was doing after the whole situation in February. I hadn’t spoken to him and he was speaking as though we did and it was so disappointing to me.”
Their falling out stems from an incident that took place while Rihanna was touring. “He did something again that was a little embarrassing. On tour, he disrespected some people on the bus and I didn’t like that, so I kinda just let him go back home. I didn’t think it was gonna be a thing where we weren’t talking to each other. I just thought, ‘OK, you just need some time away right now and every time I tried to call him after that, that was it.'”
If Rihanna’s father wants to talk to her, he knows where to call. “He has my number.”
