Whitney Houston Disappointed with Today’s Pop Stars

Whitney Houston, who is currently globetrotting on her “Nothing But Love” world tour, sat down for an interview while on the road. The 30-year veteran spoke about working with her “sister” Alicia Keys, her dismay with some of today’s pop stars, her costumes from the ’80s, how she keeps in shape and stays healthy, and how her teenage daughter brings her joy.

“There are some extremely gifted and talented young women and young men out there who don’t have to really put on Halloween costumes, just be themselves,” she said. “A little extravagance, a little flair, a little sexiness or a sultriness is cool, but some of them are very dark. … To me, it’s not becoming.”

The purpose of her interview was not about one artist in particular so people open your minds. I love hearing her speak on her career, about her and MJ, Madonna and Prince, about what gives her joy and i especially LOVED hearing her speak on her thankful and greatful she was to her fans.

She was very humble, articulate and lovely. Diva! gotta love her.

Nippy preach on girl! This is why I love her, she is just the realist and a diva! I always prayed for you and knew that because of your christian upbringing that you would return and you did.

God bless you and I hope you tour home. Interesting to hear her set the record as to how she came into showbiz!

30 years in the business, she is a legend, an icon and now that Michael has passed, she is our biggest, black superstar in music who is relevant today.

I love the fact that she speaks her mind but is not viscious or bitchy about it. She always gives praise where it is deserve, that is why she is always praising Alicia, Beyonce and Christina.

Let her be, lets see where some of these recent artists will be in 30 years. Will they be able to release a 2million selling worldwide album or sell out in Europe.

I STAN all day for Whitney aka Nippy Houston!

    love her

Great interview. It’s refreshing to hear people like Whitney who have been in the industry for so long and then share their wisdom on the industry. Where is the respect for your craft? I wish artists would get rid of this popular gimmick and actually let their gift shine.

Kudos to Whitney. She is a true legend!!

Whitney is a legend, and well respected in this business for her artistry. One of the many things I like about Whitney over so many other female stars, is her articulation. She speaks very well, and sound like she took education seriously. She is eccentric, and just plain unique. She is in a leaugue of her own.

Great Intervew and Whitney speaking nothing but the truth. She is a true ledgend and she and Michael Jackson are the two who paved the way for other Black stars to be on MTV, never forget it.

Without Whitney, there would be no Mariah, Beyonce, and the like. I stan for her all day and admire her overcoming her struggle.

Love how articulate and intelligent she sounds. Wish some of our other artists of today would learn to string together 3 sentences.

I enjoyed this interview. Whitney knows her stuff and her musical history. I love to hear artists who are articulate and can get a point across without resorting to ebonics.
Got her album and love it. Hope she tours here soon and yes Whitney, we never left you and knew you would make a return. You’re grounded in the church, that’s your anchor! She is a ledgend and will always be known as such. Very rarely does she speak to the press so I’m enjoying that she had so much to say that’s RELEVANT to today!

Whitney is a great artist, and respect her, but she should not associate everything with religion and church, i mean music is for anybody. Moreover the fact to criticize artists for wearing weird costumes is lame, every artist is expressing his thing how he/she feels it… At least, she’s saying what she’s thinking, that’s a good point.

The church is a part of her existance and was crucial in her beginning career. As a long time fan, I can tell you that EVERY concert that I’m aware that she has given in the US and abroad, she always has sung 1-3 gospel songs and spread her love for God.
It’s unrealitic to think that in 2010 she will change. Infact watching her clips of her Australian concerts, she sung some gospel songs again and proclaimed that she was not ashame of the Gospel of God! There you have it.

She can give her opinion, she’s aveteran and is entitled. She’s not being bitchy or mean and she didn’t call names. I’m cook with that.

Whitney had the best voice. Christina has the best voice of this generation and that’s why Whitney is always giving her props. Leona can definitely sing, but she ain’t no diva. Standing still on stage every performance and never rearranging your songs is not going to get Leona recognized as “the voice.” Christina also made Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Singers List at #58 beating Mariah Carey and being the only singer under 30 on the list with Beyonce, Alicia and Pink no where in sight. Leona always looks like she’s doing a damn recital. Anybody can sing like that, but not everyone can sing like Whitney, Patti, Chaka, Christina, etc. Having a great voice is creating your own sound and that’s just want Christina has done. Over the past decade she has greatly influenced the way young girls sing now. You have so many girls trying to duplicate her style and failing miserably. Being “the voice” is having a unique voice that others want to duplicate. In the 80s, 90s girls wanted to sing like Whitney, now the new generation wants to sing like Christina.

Already Gaga and Houston have come out to say they are friends and have mutual respect for one another. She actually says in the interview that she is not talking about anyone specific , that it is her opinion and the artist are extremely talented. Why don’t people see and watch for themselves instead of buying into an attention grabbing headline. Not a bad interview and glad to see she is alive and doing well. Let’s appreciate them while they are here.

    Whitney,

I AGREE 100000000000000% WITH YOU….WHAT she is trying to say is that your fashion/Hairstyle shouldn’t determine your record sells…(i.e. Lady GAGA, Rihanna) it should be about the REAL music you put out. People aree getting angry because they know its the truth…

Give me a break. Who’s really wearing a Halloween costume? Gaga and Rihanna with their avant garde fashion, or Whitney, pretending the good, sweet beauty queen while strung out on drugs? Everyone wears a mask, and Whitney’s was one of the thickest and most decorated.

and if all you all got from this amazing interview is her talking about today’s music then that is truly sad. She had so much more to say and I enjoyed it.

Yea when she said costumes i knew she was probably talking about beyonce, cause she copies, lip syncs(or uses the echo), and is always taking off her clothes or tryin to do a collab with lady gaga, or shakra to stay current, Whitney is an icon, the best “THE VOICE”, so she can say something. The Media needs to stop being so hard on her. I like this interview though, and sit down haters your time is up the Queen is back

Gaga is a manufactured circus act, if you bought in your a sucker that believes the lie. Like the magazines that airbrush to sell image. It’s milli vanilli all over again.
Whitney actual praised talent just how sometimes it packaged to sell and manipulate. Don’t be angry with Whitney cause you bought in and should feel stupid.

bcz rihanna sings her own songs that she wrote her self, plus she sings everything from hiphop to pop she hit head voice wich gaga never reach in her entiiire life, the only advantage on gaga is that she plays piano, instead rihanna plays drums and basss she is an iconn baby and she is the most successfull female artist of the decade, and the 5th most successful female in billboard of alll time she has 6 n°1 songs,16 millions albums sold,90 million record sold etc let see what gaga will do when her creativity will end up

Whitney looked quite stunning in this interview. Yes she has achieved ‘Diva’ status and right she should. Is she still relevant, well in light of her failed European tour, one wonders has her time passed. Her voice always so beautifully melodic was certainly not an asset this time around. Perhaps Clive Davis was too hasty in wanting to make some money off her talents that he pushed her out there too soon. Personally, I don’t think she has truely faced her demons and kicked all of her bad habits. When I see her interviews where she is questioned about her drug usage, she does too much eye averting which is a sign that one is lying or being intentionally evassive. Come out of denyal Whitney please. I need to be blessed by that wonderful voice that has been gone from us for far too long. As far as what was stated about new artists relying on costumes and gimmicks, well none of that is new. The difference between then and now is that back in the day, artists wore costumes to enhance their shows, but they could actually sing. Today, artists use these props as a diversion for minimal or lack of talent all together. Smoke and mirrors if you will. Personally I like Gaga, but her costumes are so played. But then again, she has ‘Acorn’ as her Manager. I’m still trying to figure out what made him famous because his talent was missed on me. If Gaga knew what was good for her she would 86 him. As for Whitney, Diva, take some time to really get yourself back to yourself so that when you come out again you will blow us all away. We need your talents ma.
