After a nearly four-year absence, Kelis awakens our senses with the visually striking video for “Acapella,” the first single from her fifth studio album Flesh Tone, arriving in the U.S. this June. The singer describes the Rankin and Chris Cottam-directed clip as having a “really strong, universal, tribal vibe to it.” Her eight-month-old son Knight Jones, the inspiration behind the David Guetta production, makes his first public appearance on the back of his mama.

I followed Kelis’ career since “Caught Out There” and since then I think that she has been one of the most innovative and trendsetting artists in pop music. Im’ really excited with the direction that is taking with her new album and I abolsutely love the “Acapela” video. Kelis is back and with a new home at Interscope I hope he light shines bright once again. Go Kelis!

the video is very different as kelis is lol but IMO in order to really feel kelis you’d have to already been a fan of hers…and the song isnt really that good i can hardly hear what shes saying except for acapella.

I mean the graphics we’re amazing, but where was the storyline, how did anything tie up with each other? The baby made since at the end, because the song is about/inspired by her baby, but how did that tie in with the rest of the video?

You can’t see the storyline and how it ties into the song? She was alone before in the forrest (before you my whole life was acapella) and now she has her son on her back at the end (now our symphony is the only song to sing) and her life is complete. It’s really not the complicated to follow.

Visually it’s amazing. Kelis did the damn thing. One of the best videos I’ve seen in years.
