On Set of Kelly Rowland’s ‘Commander’ Video

Queen of the night Kelly Rowland took charge of a Los Angeles soundstage on Wednesday (May 5) to shoot the video for the David Guetta-produced “Commander,” the first single from her third solo album, coming this September. Fatima Robinson choreographed the futuristic visuals in which Kelly goes head-to-head with herself.

Rap-Up.com was on set as the Destiny’s Child alum donned a sexy Avatar-esque bodysuit in one scene of the Masashi Muto-directed clip. Michelle Williams, Nelly, Angie Beyince, Universal Motown President Sylvia Rhone, and songwriter Rico Love, who makes a cameo in the video, showed their support for Ms. Kelly’s return to the dance floor.

    Wow she is looking Fierce! She has really come out of her shell lately. “Commander” is an excellent song and she is about to OWN the scene. I like how she’s like “Don’t count me out” attitude about her. “Commander” and the way this video looks is the best stuff she has come out with since leaving her last “management”

    All these years they handed you what they wanted to give you. telling you what you should do and making you the artist that they wanted you to be now your in charge now your the commander I’m just proud of you even if you don’t sale a whole lot I’m just proud that your the one who’s ahead of your destiny you don’t have on shakles no more your free I know I sound corny but it’s true

    I’m buying the album your one of the only few to
    have freedom in the industry your fans support you I mean your putting out a damn dance record and all these people that never even heard of electronic dance music that listen to nothing but hiphop/r&b are supporting you like you just did a record with gucci mane or something your fans love you and your in charge of the show

    I see now everybody’s getting on the Rico Love bandwagon…he’s proving to be one of the best songwriters in the game (if not the best)

    Good to see Ms. Kelly found her lane…the mainly R&B thing is getting way too crowded (and if she kept doing it, she’d only be on E1). But fear not, old-time fans-I think there will be a few slower tracks on the album too!

    Oh my, I’m so happy right now I am about to cry! This is what I’m talking ’bout people. With the right team supporting and investing in a talented artist, this is what happens. This is what many people have been waiting for. As a DC fan, I just was confused that only one of them was marketed as great. How can three train together, dance together and sing together, and yet only one has what it takes to be a super star. Kelly just needed the focus to be on her too! They all deserve that.

    God Bless her. I just feel like this journey and all of her success is a lesson to young women everywhere on how to raise up out of negativity and become who you truly are. This picture is PERFECT. It says everything I wanted Kelly to say to the world. She is breath taking. Its like so many odds were against her. Haters were telling her to retire…and in her humble and gracious why she fought back, not with words nor aggression, but by becoming who she was met to be. God Bless her for being a great example of triumph over adveristy.
    I will definitely support her, not out of pity but because I recognize her gift and enjoy her music
