Rap-Up.com || Rap-Up TV: Ciara Responds to BET Banning Her ‘Ride’ Music Video

Ciara’s fans are up in arms over BET’s decision not to add her risqué “Ride” music video into rotation. But what does Ciara think about the situation?

“It’s definitely very unfortunate and hopefully one day it will be on there,” she told Rap-Up TV, while acknowledging that her video has been singled out. “I am definitely aware that my video has some very sensual moments in it, however I know that they do play sensual videos as well.”

But the R&B singer is willing to tone down the racy imagery if given the opportunity. “I’m definitely more than willing to make an edit to make it suitable for whatever it is that would be more comfortable to the network.”

I understand that life isn’t fair but it’s really terrible that a station that is supposed to support black artists is the one practising censorship.
When mainstream channels like MTV and VH1 are more supportive of black artists than BET it means BET is CLEARLY doing something wrong and has lost the plot.

not only do they let the male artist (i.e. trey songs-”invented sex”, chris brown-”take you down”)but they also play rihanna “rude boy” that have lyrics that are just as racy if not worst!
(come here rude boy boy can you get it up? is it big enough?)
& lady gaga’s lesbian-like “telephone” video, where she is nude and kissing women.
Ciara’s video’s heavy choreography eliminates the “too racy” lyrics. give her a chance!
i think its a little too late for BET to be trying to make the network a family network. besides is there a rap song out that doesn’t refer to SEX,DRUGS,OR VIOLENCE?? (well maybe but thats not the point lol).
At this rate it wont be long before BET is DONE completely! if it wasn’t for them picking up the sitcom “the game” i would NOT support their channel (lol).

Aren’t BET playing Trey Songz pornos on that channel? So Trey Songz “I Invented Sex” is ok to play but Ciara’s ride which only really has sexual innuendos in it can’t be played? And isn’t this the same BET that played Nelly’s “Tip Drill????” Didn’t they have an uncut show for about 2-3 years?? And they have the nerve to ban anything Ciara does? This is beyond ridiculous. BET is nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. Now they wanna act all high and mighty. Boycott BET. I don’t watch them anyway but spread the word. They should not get away with this!

I think some videos should be censored definately – look at videos like Christina Aguilera’s “Not myself tonight” – if I had a kid and they were exposed to that I’d be pissed! Everyone just wants to be naked now and flaunt body parts, I’m so over it. Ciara is a fantastic dancer and a great entertainer. Yeah her video is sensual but there are worse ones out there. BET will play naked chicks on a dudes video though, believe that!

And lest we forget, for five years there was BET: Uncut. Say what you want about that, but it launched plenty of folk’s careers (Lil’ Jon, Ying Yang Twins, Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Crooked I, etc.)
But I agree, BET’s lost focus on this.

I agree with the above comments. So many videos on BET are suggestive and feature women in a negative light. Especially the videos where male rappers treat the women as sex objects and nothing else. But when a female artist releases a video that is sexually suggestive it gets banned? It’s stupid.

Although I personally find the video vulgar & disgusting, it is still quite tame compared to what BET allows on their network. Not only rappers with hald-naked hos, but female artists, too. Rihanna, Beyonce and Lady Gaga all have far more provocative videos that air on BET with no problem. I find that very strange. Maybe Ciara’s label arranged this to happen, because they know that a video getting banned=controversy=record sales. It’s a no-brainer. And let’s be honest, except for “Goodies” and “1,2, Step”, Ciara has never been an artist to burn up the mainstream charts. Outside of the urban market, she’s not really big. So her music video getting banned is nothing more than a cooked-up publicity stunt. And by the way, MTV and VH1 don’t show videos anymore, just reality shows.

Women aren’t allowed to be publicly sexual if they are doing it a dominating manner. They can strip, grind, anything if it’s in a video starring male rappers, but if a woman wants to come out on her own and be dominant it’s banned. BET is not a channel known for having purely wholesome content. This is clearly a hypocritical move.

Whether male rappers or other female singers do worse or not, ride it is waaaay too hyper sexualized. Kids freaking watch BET and they see ciara riding on a bull with a white wet t-shirt on…. Classic! Common man BET doesn’t impede young black artists from success lol ciara should just come up with something a bit more tasteful. Lyrics are suggestive, dancing is too sensual and well clothing lol. Im glad it got banned. We went from awkward lesbian vibe in telephone, to openly sexual rude boy and now ciara. Where are Alicia keys type black female artists? Black women, not only stars – and all women for that matter – should stop for a second and think about their values and respect for their selves.
It’s true that it is arguable why ciara got banned and not some other videos. 21st century is pretty much centered around tasteless and talentless young artists who boast actions and behaviors for which you would get called names few decades ago, all together. But personally I felt more offended watching this video than others cause it is true that this one was waaaay too much. Music rules our lives and all this kind of music is promoting is not >have values and respect yourself, but >make your physical appearance your only worth and sleep around. Its not any more risky than any of the other videos they play on there.. they have women on poles in videos in next to nothing on. It is just that it is a woman coming out with a song like that. when they will play songs that have sex in it. I don’t get it.
