M.I.A. is firing back at a journalist after a cover story on her appeared in this weekend’s New York Times Magazine. The “XXXO” singer claims that she was misquoted in the piece and has posted recordings from the chat on her website.

[...] M.I.A. takes aim at NY Times journalist Lynn Hirschberg on her latest track. Over the weekend, the paper ran a cover story on Maya, in which she claims she was misquoted. As a result, Maya posted audio clips of the interview to further prove her point. The song will not appear on her upcoming album, ///Y/, hitting stores on July 13th. Spotted @ Rap-Up. [...]
yeah no I read about 13-14 paragraphs before I realized I wasn’t even half way through the article. I hate to go all ‘internet attention span’ on you guys but what’s her beef? So far there doesn’t seem to be anything that was misquoted. All the negative things (so far) have been opinion rather than quotes. I’m not reading thru this entire thing so someone tell me why she’s upset
The journalist tried to give a false portrait of Maya that’s what made her hungry.
Lynn talked about the apartment in the u.s.a. or other situations described by the journalist that were all implicitly judjing m.i.a. negatively. there is also a strange affair concerning french fries…. if you have some free time go and read that article, it’s interesting.

erm… this is the second track on Wiley’s Tunnel Vision Vol. 2 – from 2006. Yes, that was 4 years ago. Maybe she could get original / with the times?
