Video: Chris Brown Breaks Down During Michael Jackson Tribute

Chris Brown

Here’s the performance that everyone will be talking about come Monday morning. Chris Brown was back on his feet, performing a dance tribute to Michael Jackson, but was too overcome with emotion to make it through “Man in the Mirror,” breaking down in tears onstage. Breezy received a standing ovation from the audience.

FUCK ALL OF U AND LEAVE THE GUY, anyways congrats chris brown on winning that award, and congrats to my girl rihanna as well for winning the viewer’s choice award. What did Jermaine mean, “A tribute you’ve never seen”? Chris’ been paying tribute to MJ since before the man even passed away! Now I don’t know what it is but I can’t look at Chris the way I used to. He can cry all he wants but just how he can’t change the past — I can’t change the way I feel. And I don’t think I’m the only one. It’s a shame too ’cause the boy is talented but all that is doesn’t mean a thing to me anymore. His tears seemed opportunistic and compromised. Maybe it’ll get some people on his side but not me. Call me cold, cynical, or whatever but don’t let me hear that I should die for being negative ’cause if that’s what you think I “deserve” then tell me what you think is the appropriate punishment for a man who beat a woman? Something tells me it ain’t multi-platinum albums sales.

    [Reply]

  35. Kevin

@Trey: You can give him the benefit of the doubt but I won’t — at least not yet. I felt that he was crying more for himself and his career than experiencing any sort of redemption. But who knows? Maybe I’m wrong and by the end of the summer we’ll be hearing more of his songs on the radio again.

@Rhino: L.O.L! But just so we’re clear equality is good. Violence isn’t. So both don’t really mix.

  37. oh please

Seriously people…it was staged. I not a fan of “Breezy” or “RiRi” so I am not biased. And for him to use a tribute to someone dead as a PR stunt is tacky. He definitely isn’t getting a Oscar for that act.

    [Reply]

  38. Tiffany

I read all of these comments and I must say WHO CARES what he was crying for. If it was for him or for Michael, the performance was great. He also won the fans award and he didn’t think he would do that. People still love him and you guys are mad. Okay he hit a woman but when yall women men cheat on you and subject you to AIDS most of yall for give him making excuses and blaming yourself. When you spend most of your time on here bashing someone your life is sad. And if Rihanna is such an ambassador for DM why haven’t she help anyone get out of a bad situation. Why was she only on 20/20 and stating that her album speaks for her, so you guys can go buy it. People need to grow up. Yall mad because society may welcome him back and Rihanna will have competition. Oh yeah he’s #3 on BEt 106 & Park, from a moxtape song #Deuces#

I mean to honest… he had the BEST performance of the night. I mean who did better? No one could hit their notes and their song selection was subpar at best. Although I take NO sides in the whole Rhianna – Chris situation (it doesn’t involve us and we honestly don’t know WHAT happened, just one persons word over the other) I feel that he deserved to get his chance to perform a tribute to the King of Pop last year. I mean how selfish were they to take that away from him, especially when everyone knew he would kill it! I just feel like those were tears that should have been let out last year at Michael Jackson’s passing, but have been repressed since and he finally wanted to shed them, so this was his chance. Point blank.

No one deserves what you continue to fling at him. It is bad, it is cruel, it is more than anyone deserves. It’s like a band wagon on negative energy. One person starts to make themselves feel better and everyone falls suit. I”M NOT EVEN A STAN! The tears weren’t fake. You should be ashamed at yourselves! You should be on knees getting spanked saying prayers! STOP IT! That performance was inspiring. It was a dance tribute not really a singing one. I am just appalled by how SICK some of you are! It is EVIl! It is DESTRUCTIVE! I am in this industry and that is the only reason I stick close to blogs. They need to get rid of comment boxes. They need to disappear al together. If someone is truly sorry for a mistake and learns from it then that’s all that matters. It’s other celebrities who have done as much or worse and I don’t see people constantly bringing their wrongs up. Some people are disgusting. I’m not even a fan AT ALL of this man, but if he’s truly contrite and will not repeat his actions then just let it go. It’s truly disgusting to get off by judging others. Some people really do, and it’s sick.

While I can admit that the is a good dancer, its nothing special. This will be the only performance for an award show he will have for a long long time if not forever. I dont feel sorry for him. He put his own career in the crapper. He isn’t going to have a multi platinum or diamond or probably even a gold album. Europe has basically banned him. He has a limited fan base. While he probably was emotional I feel like these were well practiced crockadile tears. I would be emotional too if my career tanked as fast as it did. And no people shouldn’t forgive him. What he did was horrible and completely unacceptable. Whether you like Rihanna or not, he did one of the worst things possible. This is his fault so dont feel sorry for him. His failed career is now his karma.

@Polly. yeah i said it. Name one performance that was better than that over the past 10 years? I’ll wait…… This MJ tribute beats out the one he did at 2008′s MTV Music Video Awards and thats saying a lot. An artist that can dance doesnt need to sing they have the excuse to lip sync but for an artist that doesnt dance and lip syncs is a damn disgrace. I cant name an other artist who has had such a touching, creative performance like that and has done Michael Jackson justice. Chris Brown is the only artist that can do it. Nobody else. And for MJ being the greatest entertainer of all time Chris Brown did him justice. Now someone holla at me when u can name a performance better than that in this past decade.

It’s not my place to judge, but putting your hands on someone out of anger or being upset doesn’t give you the open opportunity to lash out on someone physically. With that being said, I didn’t see the BET Awards show, but I was thinking that the lyrics of the song probably made him feel the way that he did. Not only the lyrics, but being that MJ is gone now and how nice of a person he was during his time here.

We all know what happened between Chris and ReRe was wrong. However, this young man has apologized and maybe not the way that many would like for him to apologize but nevertheless he did. Jesus spoke the following words and many of us should take heed “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye,and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

first off, i don’t respect anybody quoting bible verses at me, so stop it. this was an incredibly manipulative, pathetic attempt to get back in america’s good graces and i’m sad to know that it’ll probably work. he’s a good dancer and i was alright with him doing that aspect of the tribute (the singing was wack but he could never sing IMO), but isn’t it oh so convenient to perform man in the mirror? chris brown ain’t got shit on michael jackson in his prime because without michael jackson, there wouldn’t be any of these lames we’re forced to deal with every award show.

what has he done to show that he’s changed, aside from his mumbling youtube apologies with that raggedy bowtie, his court ordered (i.e. if he doesn’t do it, he goes to jail) community service, and putting out that way-too-aggressive-sh!t-talking mess of an album?

i would be more willing to be less hard on him (i never was nor will i ever be a fan because i like people whose voices changed during puberty) if he were genuine about changing. he wants his career “back” without having to work for it. take a year or two, go work on yourself, and then we’ll talk.

and work on your fans because they go WAY too hard, blaming rihanna instead of realizing that it was his fault.

OMG y’all. I just started crying myself during “Man In the Mirror.” Not only did that sum up MJ, but Chris Brown’s life now. He’s really endured a lot from the media and people higher up like Jay-Z sabotaging his career, but this is the first time I thought Chris Brown was sincere since the incident. It took nearly a year and a half for him to realize how much he hurt someone not only physically, but emotionally. I’ve been getting from his interviews that he was more hurt that his career has been going down the drain rather than hurting someone he loved. It’s time he look at himself in the mirror and try to do what he can now and stop being so selfish. I love you Breezy!

Wow…everywhere I go, I see Chris Brown getting so much love. Many who have doubted him and turned their back on him are telling others to also forgive and give him a second chance. Some of his biggest critics, TMZ, Elizabeth Hassleback and Perez Hilton have said he did a great job and that he was sincere. He had 3 or 4 different Trending Topics, even getting the #1 spot because his performance was so brilliant. He is on the front page of every news source getting positive reviews from the vast majority. Who Mad?? Oh, the rihanna stans are *oops*. So many people said Chris’ career was over, that he would lose all his fans, that he would never perform on TV, that his videos would never be played on TV, that mainstream would never be willing to give him another chance, and they have been proven wrong. You can keep wishing for him to fail, but realize that it isn’t up to you. This is clearly a turning point in Chris’ career, it is only the beginning of a great comeback and I cannot wait to see what else the Lord has in store for him.

To all you selfish uncaring haters, it’s called redemption, something alot of yall don’t know anything about. The tears was real, he didn’t get a chance to mourn his idol, yall need Jesus, bad! Go, Chris Breezy, this is one dude that is not ashamed to say, he is rooting for you!

He did a GREAT JOB, the performance was HEARTFELT!! LOVED IT!!

THE WHOLE INCIDENT WAS NOT TOTALLY HIS FAULT. I had read in a couple of articles and also heard Rhianna admitting in a TV interview that it started with a TEXT MESSAGE from a female and she “just would not let it go” No, by all means it is not right to hit ANYONE but sometimes when you back someone up in a corner a person may come out fighting. But anyhow it’s is a part of his past and a part of her past and we should just leave it there.

I was expecting alot more. I was like “ummm when is ciara or usher coming out?” He dancing was good, Ill give him that, but why all of a sudden did he start crying out of no where? I thought that was so planned…Ive never been a fan of his and im not big on rihanna so im not taking sides. Everybody sayin “he made me cry!” umm how? Mike’s memorial made me cry, but this was just lame.

He was shut out of the tribute last year, I agree with Trey Songz when he said we waited a whole year to see this, he was cut out of the tribute last year when they should have let him do it. He did a great job, I even shed a tear. You haters are just heartless. I think yall are just mad because he did a good job. @ dude, I so agree with you!Everyone knows he was a big fan of MJ, hell my friend still tears up whenever she sees a MJ videao or hear a song of his, she loved him so much. You haters are just some sorry ass individuals with no purpose in life at all but to hate and cast judgement on others when you probably need to be fixing your own pathetic lives! Continue on Breezy, they just mad.

Honestly ppl it is time to let that 2 yr old crap go! I am wondering how many of these bleeding heart Rihanna fans feel about her the so-called victim with a long histroy of ABUSING MEN (her 8 yr old brother the ex-island boytoy, & Chris Brown) working with Eminem! Now we all know that Eminem BEAT his wife KIM MATHERS several times! He has written several songs about beating her and killing her. Now why is there no effort put into making sure that this adult drug addicted abusive male not work with Rihanna?
