Janet Jackson Gets Nasty at ESSENCE Music Festival
After being asked numerous times over the last 15 years to perform, Janet Jackson finally accepted ESSENCE’s invitation to headline this year’s ESSENCE Music Festival at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans on Friday (July 2). “They’ve asked me for a while to be a part of the festival and my schedule never really permitted it,” Ms. Jackson explained to CNN.
The pop superstar, dressed as a futuristic dominatrix, pleased old and new fans with material including “The Pleasure Principle,” “Control,” “Rhythm Nation,” and her latest single “Nothing.” She even catered to one lucky male fan onstage in an S&M sequence, complete with whips and a straitjacket.
Monica, Charlie Wilson, Raphael Saadiq, and Chrisette Michele also performed earlier in the day.

I’m a huge Janet fan, but also a Madonna and a Rihanna fan. I don’t feel I have to cut down one diva to build up another one. Janet has been doing her thing for years and doing it well! She is always fresh and innovative, so much so that a good number of younger performers give her credit as an inspiration. So I’m not gonna tear down Rihanna who’s out there doing her own thang or Madonna who is an innovator in her own right just because some people are too short-sighted to see the truth of things. This woman has sold over 150 million albums, her Janet album was the first album by a female in history to debut at number one. Her Janet tour sold out more stadiums than any other artist in history( besides her brother). She has broken every record known to man, and furthermore she influenced every pop artist that came after her: Beyonce, Britney, Ciara, Christina, Aaliyah(R.I.P), and many more. First of all Janet wasn’t trying to make a comeback. She hasn’t gone anywhere. The head of the Essence Music Festival has been trying to get her to headline for years and she finally agreed to do it. The show sold out in a matter of minutes(faster than any show in previous years). The show was incredible and Janet continues to prove that she has nothing to prove. She is incredible and her career is in a great place. She didn’t steal anyone’s anything. “Remember that Ciara, Britney, Rihanna all live in the house that Janet built.” They aren’t confused, so dont you be DAWO.

Also, Janet cut her hair for a movie role. She is currently filming it here in Atlanta. It just happened to be the same time as her performance. I doubt she will keep it, but it looks fantastic. Janet has set records that RiRi and Gaga want to beat, but don’t have a chance with most of them.

Actually, Dawo, Janet has sold over 100 million worldwide. She has sold 60 million in the U.S. alone. You really should check your facts before you run your mouth. Control and Rhythm Nation sold 14 million a piece. The Janet album sold 26 million worldwide. If you count her singles, it actually is close to 150. Mariah Carey sold the amount she did, because you could buy her singles at Blockbuster and other stores that didn’t even sell music at the time. It pays to marry the head of a record company.
