Exclusive: Amerie Reveals Name Change

Amerie

If you see Amerie’s name spelled with two Is from now on, that’s not a typo. The “1 Thing” singer has officially changed the spelling of her name.

The Grammy-nominated artist, who now goes by Ameriie, added an I to her name to reflect positive energy. She announced the change to Rap-Up.com last month, but didn’t go public with it until her new Twitter page (@ItsAmeriie) was set up.

Ameriie has been in the studio working on the follow-up to last year’s In Love & War called Cymatika Vol. 1 (note the new spelling), named after the study of visible sound and vibration. “I’m still in the studio right now, so the best thing I can say is it’s a very international, worldly sound,” she told Rap-Up TV.

In addition to changing her name, Ameriie has also become engaged to her longtime manager Lenny Nicholson. The couple is planning to wed in 2011.

UPDATE: Ameriie has provided Rap-Up.com with further explanation of the name change. “I operate on vibes and intuition, and I believe everything is energy; the vibration of the double I is right for me. Slightly different spelling, completely same pronunciation!”

    Please.. this girl is fire…

The kids are probably to young to remember but Beyonce jacked her style faster than Nicki & Songs jacked R Kelly & Kim’s.

Amazing. Bang said in a recent interview.. Everyone is stealing R Kelly style and winning with it.. That what is happening in music in general.

I guess this generation is incapable of creating their own style.. But then again I guess this is a result of the 106 & Park generation.. They only know what they saw. They probably think BET is still Black Owned as well.. Tis TIs

happy about the new sound because no one is feeling r&b singers and hiphop soul anymore. Ask all that try to come out with it Monica (Let me know) and soon Jazmine Sullivan (Hold U down). It sounds dated. i think a new sound is what she needed, but how does adding an I to your name add positive energy? Is that a Korean tradition?

I Love Amerie, and Her Music Alot, Especially The “In Love & War” Album, But Why In The World Would She Change A Beautiful Name Like That, Hopefully It’s Just For Her Twitter Account, and Not Any Albums Or Any Other Product Of Hers… Amerie Or Ameriie For 2010, and Beyond.

I love the new name, its cute to me! & the new album sound should be international. Like someone said earlier, nobody is feeling straight r&b anymore. We want something different. So she needs to go in with some of the newest and hottest producers out there not Tricky Darkchild and Jim Jonsin . .they played and dated but producers like Rusko, Paul van Dyk, Sia, and more alternative producers that nobody has ever worked with. I think this is great and her mananger is doing the right thing! Cymatika Vol. 1 coming soon baby!

This is dope. At first I was like hell nah but I like it now. See people don’t understand how Ameriie is so underrated but she is. So this is what she needs. This could be a career changing moment for her. A new name, sound, album, and overall appearance. I hope she sex’s up her image and add more club tracks and she could give Beyonce a run for her money. Everything these days is boring so Im down for whatever my beautiful Korean queen is giving. And u haters r nothing thats why we continue to pay u dust. That is all!

I’m glad for a new sound she needs something fresh. Her songs seem to be hiphop funk since 2004 or something. Time for change and she should spice up her image and get rid of her husband i mean manager.

I use to like Amerie back in 2002-2005 but vocally I can’t tolerate her anymore for a whole album. So she needs to do more than change a name to get my money. This is also kind of whack but we will see if this can bring positive energy and HITS to Ms. AmeriIe…if not back to the drawing board.
