Rap-Up.com || Fantasia Hospitalized for Overdose

Fantasia Barrino has recently come under fire for her involvement with a married man. Now the 26-year-old “American Idol” alum is making headlines again for a more serious matter. Barrino was rushed to a North Carolina hospital on Monday (Aug. 9) as a result of a medication overdose.

According to TMZ, a rep for “The Color Purple” actress confirmed that the overdose reports were accurate and that Barrino was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville around 8:55 p.m. Monday night. A report made at the time of her admittance showed that the singer’s condition was not life-threatening.

Her manager says the overdose was caused by a combination of aspirin and a sleep aid. She took the medication after feeling “overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention” surrounding her relationship with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Antwaun Cook.

“Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized,” read a statement released by her camp. “She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid. Her injuries are not life-threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon.”

The rep also clarifies Fantasia’s relationship with Cook, saying she “believed” him when he told her “he was not happy in his marriage [to Paula Cook] and his heart was not in it.”

Fantasia is scheduled to release her third album, Back to Me, on August 24.

UPDATE: According to the police report, officers who arrived at Fantasia’s house were told that she attempted to commit suicide by ingesting pills.

She didnt try to kill herself. The media can be so misleading. I know her manager. She took a sleeping pill and a asprin and felt lightheaded and had to be rushed to the hospital.

God forbid this were Rihanna and people were cracking the same jokes about her, you would rip into them. Oh yeah, I don’t need to make up a hypothetical situation for you to understand, February ’09 should be enough for you to know. Yeah, kicking someone while they’re down isn’t so funny when it happens to your idol, but with anyone else, you turn it into a joke. Suicide isn’t a funny thing, and I can assure most people who try it don’t do it for fun. It’s an indicator of a psychological problem. Do some research and educate yourself before you embarrass yourself by opening your dumbass mouth.

the jokes and snide comments about her personal life are tacky as hell. god forbid something happened to one of your loved ones and you had to see people being so judgmental.

if this WAS a true suicide attempt (i don’t know and i don’t trust people who know somebody who know somebody who know somebody), she needs love, support, and understanding, not people telling her its selfish and attacking her. that’s the last thing she needs in order to herself together.

I doubt if she really tried to kill herself, but hey the world will always make a big deal out of others mistakes when they have mistakes of their own. GROW UP!! Fantasia keep your head up and don’t let anything or anybody stop you. Ask God for forgiveness mean it when you ask no that He will. I’ve been a fan of yours since you started and I know that you are blessed anointed young lady everytime I hear you sing I don’t just hear you I feel you only God’s anointing can do that.
