Kanye West plays the “Blame Game” on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Nov. 22). With longtime collaborator John Legend crooning over rat-tat drums, subtle keys, and delicate strings, the nearly eight-minute tune puts the rapper in a reflective mood, hurting over a romance turned sour. Chris Rock provides comedic relief, naming things he can thank Yeezy for. Listen to what Mr. West calls his current favorite track off his fifth album below.
Personal preferences aside, Kanye has been putting out some incredibly high-quality music. Talented features and production that focuses on music rather than guaranteed commercial success and, of course, interesting lyrics.
I appreciate what he is doing and wish the labels would take note that some people still do appreciate (and BUY) music by talented artists. I’ll be buying MBDTW to not only support Kanye, but the potential of others like him as well.
Oh, how I love this song! first heard it from his short film “Runaway” after the phoenix has a dead bird placed in front of her & after that seen she is sad & sitting in the backyard with the fawn&lamb…this music is playing in the background…I think it will be one of my faves on his new album MBDTF :)) & John Legend is a great addition to this song, I love his voice.
I think this my song of the year! Wow John Legend kills the chorus and at first Ye caught me off guard with the second verse, but it matches the nature of the song perfectly.
Great track. I think Kanye West has done a good job of putting his creativity and all of the resources he has as his disposal to great use on this album. Lyrically, not the best work but concepts are good. I can do without Chris Rock on this.
Yeah, the album has leaked. The only songs I haven’t heard in entirety are Blame Game, Gorgeous, Hell Of A Life, & Rick Ross’ verse on Devil In A New Dress. Oh well, he said he did a new version of See Me Now, and hopefully he’ll put Mama’s Boyfriend & Chain Heavy on there as bonus tracks. Not listening to this song, i want SOMETHING to be new when I buy the album smh. Oh well, I guess I’ll just let Good Saturdays (yes saturdays) hold me over until Watch The Throne comes out
gorgeous leaked already. I bump it in my car daily…its my personal favorite along with Dark fantasy. Is it only me or did his short film have sum kinda affect the songs on the album…like the film made be fall deeply in love with those 2 tracks
This is definately gonna be one of my favourite songs on MBDTF just because of the meaning of it, musical genius, ahh does anyone know wher i can download this… GOODfriday is the shit!
idk if its john who did for me…but this is one of the few hip hop tracks that actually affects…one of the only ones that i think is beautiful…possibly the most beautiful rap song since “Dear mama”…ye…u r a KING!!!
…and shoutout to him singing without autotune…AND SOUNDING GOOOD!!!
Yall even if kanye’s album leaks we must support good music because kanye is one of the few artist(even fewer rappers) to produce on this level so go support him Nov 22!
I will be up in the store buying My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on November 22. Kanye goin real hard! I read this got a PERFECT review from Rolling Stone. CRAZY!
Send me chills down my back. Beautiful.
Haters gonna hate, but you can’t deny the amount of creativity Kanye has. Kanye is probably one of the most creative artist of this generation, if not ever…
@The Answer I think the same thing. But…. I guess when he’s explaining the phone call that he heard that was it. Yeah I find it to be a real honest look at breaking up w/someone, finding someone knew to kill the time & then finding out the new person wasn’t any better then the old one b/c of lies/bullshyting. Oh well I guess this is the answer to what happened between Alexis & Amber :/
Love the song, but whoever wrote this article should point out that the entire music for the song is a sample of an Aphex Twin song. Kanye is still great, but props should be given to Aphex Twin.
also to the commenters above, there is one snippet of the piano from the aphex twin song taken + looped; all the strings, bass, other layers etc are added in by kanye. love both songs but they are VERY different
(beauty of hiphop)
lol @ uGEEu … black excellence? While he’s standing on the shoulders of Richard James (Aphex Twin)? For years African Americans have complained about how “white men” have stolen the “black man’s music” (jazz and the blues) … I find it completely ironic that the exact opposite is happening now – African American artists sampling white artists just as much as they’ve sampled other black artists, making money off it, and becoming popular all over the world.
The truth is, art is art is art, and I love hip hop just as much as I love rock, electronica, jazz, the blues, classical … ALL of it. Everyone on BOTH sides of the racial divide need to get the hell off their high horses and recognize that music and talent know no limits. And I also find it completely ironic that “Yeezy” himself can’t get past this… repeating the same narrow-minded crap every time he opens his mouth.
I wish the world could just appreciate both songs, both people for being artists, and drop the rest of the pretense.

This is a hard-hitting open letter, set to music.
He’s divulging a LOT of emotional and psychological issues tied to a “certain” relationship.
It’s captivating.
