Kandi Burruss recalls writing one of the biggest hits of the ’90s, TLC’s “No Scrubs.” The “Real Housewife of Atlanta,” whose new album Kandi Koated drops December 14, reveals how the Grammy-winning song changed her life. “That was one of the best decisions I think I ever made,” she tells Rap-Up TV of giving the song to T-Boz, Chilli, and Left Eye. “That song has made history and it really opened the doorway for my songwriting career.”
The Atlanta singer-songwriter recently ran into T-Boz, who is working on a special project and asked Kandi to rap along with a bunch of other “female boss chicks.” The door is open for future collabos.
Another big record that came later that year was Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills.” “At first, I think they were kinda iffy on me coming to the session when I first got there, but I ended up hitting it off really well with the girls,” says Kandi of recording with the original foursome, Beyoncé, Kelly, LeToya, and LaTavia.
