Another year has gone by since the birth of Aaliyah Dana Haughton, an angel who left this world too soon. Throughout her life, the gentle singer captivated audiences with standout singles “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number,” “Are You That Somebody?” and “We Need a Resolution,” distancing herself from her R&B peers by getting in touch with her sensitive side, and always remaining genuine and heartfelt. Though Babygirl’s life was taken almost 10 years ago, we celebrate her contributions to musical history on her birthday, and will always remember her through the genre-defying work she left behind.

my favorite aaliyah memory was when one in a million dropped as a single; that shit changed my life. the video was incredible & groundbreaking through style at that time- the eye patch?! everyone wanted that shit & every girl at school started to cover one eye with a swoop. nothing & no one can be credit for revolutionizing R&B music like aaliyah did with one in a million. her albums, though progressive are timeless.
we love you babygirl.
miss you.

I have way too many memories of her, she’s my favorite female R&B artist of all-time and I know she would of still been making great music and being a great actress. I will however name a few of my favorite memories of Aaliyah, 1st one comes in the year 2000 when Romeo Must Die came out and she had the chart topping song “Try Again” (Produced by Timbaland & Written by Static Major),the 2nd memory was the following year in 2001 which was when she release her new single/video “We Need A Resolution” and I absolutely loved that video, I remember I had to sneak and watch it because my mother hated music videos (lol) and 3rd was in the same year when she sponsored a contest on BET to win an Escalade, every night of 106 & park they’d talk about which also lead to her last appearance on BET. None of us knew her personally but she made us feel as if we did through her music and interviews, thanks Aaliyah and I look forward to seeing again.

I’ll remember her being a great r&B singer who could sing relatable lyrics with a sweet falsetto and low sultry notes , over r&b/hip hop/rock beats. And she could dance. She brought Fatima’s choreography to life and was hot with her hips and shoulder isolations. She did different dance styles in videos such as the flamenco in “Are You That Somebody”.
She was about to take over the acting world with her turns as budding action star especially with “The Matrix” series.
She would’ve been one of the best, but she was already amazing A forever favorite.

We lost the best female R&B singer ever. Music has not been the same since her passing Aaliyah’s music was different, and had a different style from all the other female artists out there now. She never had to dress inappropriately to get her music out. A lot of female singers now have to reveal strong sexual explicit images just to sell a record, Aaliyah never had to. Brandy is another respectable artist out there too.

@Beyoncestannn: No one was even threatning Beyonce, so calm down. I enjoy Beyonce too, but it’s not like Beyonce massages your feet everyday and tucks you into bed at night. Nothing gets accomplished by being a “stan.” You waste your time boasting about an artist that doesn’t even know you or know you’re defending them. Back to the topic.
Man…32 years old. It’s like “That long ago? Really?” I honestly do miss her. Her singing voice is one of my favorite voices. I absolutely adore her low notes. It’s like a chill haunting feeling that’s amazing to hear at night. Her songs are timeless, but I Care 4 U takes the cake. Perfect song to play at night. Goodness…that woman was such an adorable person. I remember her saying she’d ask the people to dim the lights in the studio because she was a little shy when the music production team would have all eyes on her when she sang. Of course she knew she’d be doing it in front of hundreds/thousands/even millions of people though. Aaliyah, as well as others, has definitly made her mark in history and she will be missed. /.\

R.i.P Aaliyah Dana Haughton- January 16,1979-August 25, 2001. U truly One in a Million! Miss u Baby Girl. :(
Aaliyah was such a down to earth person with a great head on her shoulders, great sense of humor, unique style that made her stand out from the rest of the R&B artists, soft spoken, beautiful, talented & an amazing dancer. I love all her music & was devastated when she passed away in 2001. The music industry hasn’t been the same since.
My favorite memory besides her music videos would be watching her performance of “More than a woman” on Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, which was a month before she passed away. I remember rushing home that night to tape that performance. She was an incredible live singer! Can’t wait til Aaliyah biopic movie comes out. Still bump her music every chance i get or when it’s played on the radio. Keep her legacy alive! :) Props to Rap-Up for adknowledging her birthday!
–Please let’s not bring up Beyonce, that was disrepectul for that one user to say. It’s all about Aaliyah.

I will never get over the fact that Aaliyahs gone ever its just so devestating because she was so young and i grew up watching her career blossom into what it was. My most memorable Aaliyah moment is when she brought her pet snake to MTV’s TRL and Carson Daly freaked out lol will never forget that. Aaliyah was such a genuine humble person i always wondered what she would come out with next, what her next video would be like, what new movies she would release, etc. Back and Forth, At your Best,One in A Million and Are You That Somebody will always be my favorite Aaliyah songs. The impact she left on the music industry and her fans will always be a reminder to how big she would have been we all know she would be huge. Always in my heart babygirl. R.I.P.

I remember how happy she was, and how she would not have changed anything in her life that she had done. She love entertaining, what i remember most is what she said in an interview, When you can get up in the morning to go to work and enjoy what you are doing, you are truely blessed. I thought about what she said, how many of us can truely say we are happy every day about our job and what we do. I work with some real selfish people, player haters, copy cats, it’s like these people don’t have a life of their own. Aaliyah was so beautiful and talented. I won’t forget her, when i read stuff that people say native about Aaliyah, i ignor it, i’m not happy about it. I wish that people would stop comparing Aaliyah to Beyonce and Ciara, all these other people. I see the videos, of this one vs Aaliyah, it’s like come on people stop. Let Aaliyah R.I.P. She would really be disappointed with Beyonce and different ones, making videos, with her music and theirs mixed in, to make money off of this poor girl. Let the Angel rest in Heaven and dance around all day with the other Angels in Heaven, just let go, but don’t forget her life, and her love of music and performing. Pray for her mom and dad and her brother. Aaliyah is gone, she is not coming back. Telling all these other peopld to stop talking a whole lot of mess about someoen we did not know and will never get to meet. Happy Birthday Baby Girl R.I.P.
