Rap-Up.com || Dr. Dre’s Rep Refutes 4/20 ‘Detox’ Date

Dr. Dre got hopes up last night after hinting that his long-awaited album Detox would finally be released on April 20, but don’t break out the bubbly just yet.

A rep for the West Coast veteran tells MTV News that the viral video wasn’t referring to the release date for the mythical project. No further explanation of the 4/20 date was provided.

The denial belies Dre’s statement in the clip, which seemed to be referencing Detox. “4/20, baby. 4/20, I’m comin’,” said Dre, meaning that the album would hit stores on a Wednesday instead of the traditional Tuesday. Producer Just Blaze, who posted the widespread video, even addressed the unconventional release date. “We talked about that. [I'm] sure the publicity and hype of the date release would make up for the lost day,” he tweeted.

While Detox is seemingly without a solid street date, Interscope is planning to drop the Alex Da Kid-produced “I Need a Doctor” featuring Eminem as the follow-up to “Kush.”

Hell is he waiting for? That’s like 2 months away from now, so he sure as hell better not be talking about a single release date, he should’ve been dropped the new single really. Whatever, skeptical I shall remain…

I am fan of Dr. Dre’s music, I hope Dre proves me wrong, but Detox doesn’t feel like it is going to be anything amazing. Detox will probably be a good album, but not a great album. Even if Detox sells great, it could turn out to be a disappointment for hip hop fans, if Detox is not a classic like his previous albums. The fact that there seems to be no true release date makes me feel that this album won’t be as great as the hype makes it be.

I don’t see how Detox can satisfy on the level people will feel it needs to at this point. It will have to be a really astounding album above and beyond anything to get the type of respect something as hyped as this deserves.

if that album was to come out on 4/20…that would be the perfect PR move…but yet u have fail me again…but u know what else…im pretty sure timbo gonna try and compete with the ‘stock value III’…that would be intresting…
