Ciara ‘Prays’ for Label to Release Her

Ciara

Shooting back at rumors that Jive Records had dropped Ciara from its roster, the R&B princess is telling her side of the story. In a Facebook post on her page, CiCi tells her fans that she has asked to be released from her contract with Jive after they failed to give her control over decisions regarding her past two albums. She explains that with her latest single “Gimmie That,” the label tried to prevent the track from getting play on the radio and that she had to fund its promotion out of her own pocket. Get the full scoop from Ciara herself.

This week the net has been a buzz of the rumor that I have been dropped from my label. At this point that rumor is false.. It is true that I have asked and I pray that my label will release me. I have had some great times and success with my label, but sometimes like all great things, its at that point where I feel we don’t share the same views on who I am as a artist. The past two albums have been very frustrating for me. At times there were songs I chose to lead a project and I was ignored! This project, I even tried to get Gimmie Dat started I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio pds tell me my label didn’t want the song played. I even spent more than one hundred thousand dollars out of my pocket on the video to bring my vision to it and still no label support. I do understand that some labels are not financially supporting their artists and I have become one of them. You, my fans, know that I strive to do my best to deliver to my you the best songs and creative vision I possibly can. I’m dedicated to my music, performance and to my fans! I’ve tried to be a team player with the label only to have compromised what I truly believed.. And was not given the right opportunity to promote and inform my fans of the release of this album..I have so much of me as a artist I still want to give to the world and my fans. A release would allow me to go be creative with people who care and understand me as a artist. In a short time, I will be able to bring to you a new music energy and a visual excitement! Thank you so much for standing by me through the good, bad, and the confusion. I love you all.

Love Ciara

Man this is so sad. I wish her the best. I think she’s a very talented performer. Her appearance on George Lopez Tonight was insane! I’m not her biggest fan, but I think she deserves better than that kind of treatment from her label. Good luck, Ciara.

Half of this sounds like an excuse for flopping but half of it sounds true. We’ve seen this happen to plenty of artist. I do think she needs to change her music style, all her music sounds the same. Goodies, Gimme Dat, Lose Control, Go Girl, Like A Boy = all sound the same. She’s lucky she came out in 04′ when crunk/ATL was the thing. I still have hope for her, but she needs to switch her music up!

@Diamond, I agree Diamond. All the songs sound alike and all her videos look alike. Good music consists of more than moaning and singing about how you work it. For that matter, dancing consists of more than dropping it to the floor and grinding. If that’s as good as it gets, take it back to the stripclub and let me tuck my bills in there

@Diamond, Imma have to disagree with you on that… She does have variation in her songs. Like a Boy it’s self was one of the most unique songs she’s every done, from the lyrics to the beat itself, and you can’t include Lose Control in that list because it’s not even hers, she just collaborated on it…

Some of you are so damn simple. It obvious the girl is telling the truth.

Everyone with a brain fans, hater, gossipers can all tell it was something shady going on with Laface & Jive in relations to her.

Since she has yet to completely conform to what they wanted as a artist they arent putting money into her. They known if she leaves the label she is likely to gain her popularity back with the right label home. So in order to force her to do as they wish they wont fund her or let her out of her contract! So she has two choices do exactly what they say or never make any new music again until she completes her obligations to them.

im not the biggest Ciara fan, and personally I think she has an extremely weak voice, but I do think there is some truth to this. Granted, whos to say her vision is going to be all that hot. Gimmie That wasn’t that great, but it was a move in the right direction in terms of video quality and energy. Also these days you don’t have to be a great singer to make catchy music. Shes pretty enough and is uniquely skilled at dancing. I’ve been saying its bad promotion and weak song choice that has gotten her here. Anyway, I’m curious to see how much will change if you moves to another label

Omg!!!! I’m crying….. Ciara is just…. ughhhh!! So humble and down to earth! I’m proud of her and the loyal fans who have supported her throughtout the shade and bullshit. She ain’t going no where and she’s looking at this as an lifelong experience. Sometimes in life the cake is got given to you all the time. You have to earn that cake. Her record label wanted to set her up for failure. Man this era would’ve been HUGE!!! No worries Ci gonna keep on doing what she does best and SLAY! Seriously everybody thinks her career is over. And at the end of the day she’s standing. What an inspiration to young people. In life your gonna have ups and downs but regardless of what’s happening in your life you must continue to get back up and keep moving foward. As a loyal fan she is one of the most GENUINE and RARE artist of this generation and I’m glad to be apart of her journey. Ciara keep SLAYING that’s all I have to tell you. :):) You got these record labels that have artist that are talented and have potential but they don’t want to do their part in making sure business is handles properly. You would think last era’s turmoil would be a wake up call for her label but instead they wanted to do what they wanted to do. Hell she spent money to try to get this album realeased and make her fans happy. Whatever Ciara always gets the last laugh. I thank this site for supporting her and the owner because it seems they’re sincere and want Ciara to continue to have success. I don’t know what else to say but Ciara #IMPROUDOFYOU.:)

Exactly, Jive Wanted Her To Go All Dancy Pop Like Britney Spears, But Despite Pop Taking Over Radio, Urban Is Where Ciara’s Main Base Is. Here at World Spinner we are debating the same thing……

  51. Drake&CiaraFan

I love Ciara, and this does make a lot of sense
    Reasons:
“High Price” was probably what she wanted as lead single from FR, but the label cancelled it, and didn’t go with her other choice “Work” and released sub-par “Go Girl”.
“Love Sex Magic” was released even though it was too pop and sounded nothing like her.
“Like a Surgeon” was cancelled and Ciara said in interviews it was one of her favs from the album. Label wanted “Tell Me What Your Name is”, neither was released.
“Gimmie Dat”‘s release was pushed back for months, prob because she and her label were debating about whether to release. It prob wouldn’t of if she didnt do it.
    “Speechless” wasn’t released to radio.
Fantasy Ride was promoted, but as a pop album, and if you listen to it, you’ll notice that the best songs are the urban/dance ones, which is what she usually does.
Basic Instinct wasnt promoted, because it was too urban.

Please help her by signing: http://twitition.com/c7g9j/

You are in my prayers as well CiCi, my favorite singer JoJo has been dealing with label politics for well over 3 years, and things are finally coming together. It’s hard to keep your cool through a trying time such as this, but you’ll see that these things happen for a reason, and with God as your leader, great things are to come out of it. Your labels are foolish for not allowing personal views to be heard when determining the promotions of YOUR music. In the end you’ll dominate, and just take things day by day with an optimistic state of mind and you’ll flourish and grow as an artist immensely.

  71. From Tokyo

This explains a lot. That’s really too bad for her. This happens in many businesses and it’s got to be particularly frustrating when you are any kind of performer given that, as a performer, you seek to stamp your own style/direction on whatever you’re trying to do. Good luck to her.

    [Reply]

  72. From Tokyo

Promotion is everything. Even crap albums by some of the biggest “stars” in this industry still sell. I won’t name any but I can think of a few. In any case, I TOTALLY agree about the point being made about R&B acts and pop. The truth is, the reason why real R&B artists aren’t selling as much as they could is because most people want pop, even amongst the African-American community. Even hip-hop has to be pop now. There is too much evidence to dispute it. It’s all about pop right now. Nobody’s checking for R&B – straight, REAL R&B – like they used to. A lot of singers called R&B artists aren’t – they’re pop artists with slight R&B influences, that’s all. This is a big part of the problem. I’m not a big Ciara fan or really a fan at all but I do think she’s talented and to me the best dancer and has a good voice. Given this, I think it’s the music she’s putting out – it’s “too black”, and it’s obvious that by-and-large people don’t want that right now. Yeah, I said it.

Is that why Shut ‘Em Up wasn’t on Basic Instinct.? Man, Jive really is a horrible label. True, I love Britney Spears, but they need to treat ALL their artists with respect. Basic Instinct has some good songs, but they weren’t promoted correctly. And the album release date even hurt it worst. Ride was released around Summer time and Basic Instinct sounds more like a Summer R&B album. Had the album kept the original Summer release date and had better promo, it could’ve been better. Ride, Gimmie Dat, and Speechless are all good singles. Ride and Gimmie Dat were perfect for urban radio and Speechless is a great R&B smash hit as well. I do like Ciara and I know she can be a bigger success with the right label. Jive just isn’t it.

Unfortunately, Jive only cares about the artists that are making them money: Usher, Pink, and Britney (and MAYBE R. Kelly).

They are a POP label, but yet they still sign R&B/Urban artists when they know damn well that they are eventually going to force them to go pop.

Jive is a deathtrap! It is near impossible to succeed with them, especially for new artists. So many new artists have come and gone on Jive: they release one or two singles, then they are dropped.
Jive – PLEASE don not no anymore R&B/Urban artists, you don’t know what to do with them.

When she already made her name and has her signature (r&b/hip-hop/drunk with a touch of POP) Hence why they made her go on tour with Britney instead of her having her own long overdue tour!! They want C to be something she don’t want to be! Jive FORCED “Love Sex Magic”! And they promoted it cause It was POP….and it SLAYED! So they wanted to prove that it’s what she needs….but everyone knows it was forced! And Ciara needs to be in her own lane like she was….and JIVE is the reason why she’s not as big as she should be! I too HOPE AND PRAY Jive releases her!

Ciara has Legend/icon potential! No promotion or credit has ever been given to her from Jive. She needs to be somewhere where a label is willing to support her talent.

Ciara Keep GOING because your A list material!

So with that said I hope she has a good lawyer, she signed a contract. Whether she like it or not she’ll be stuck to it. Now if she wants them to let go, show them the
Money. I’m so glad artist like jay z and ashanti bought out there contract to go independent. It’s not worth the headache

some of ya’ll are such stans that you can’t connect the dots. her career took a “dive” once she decided to drop phillana (her manager) and somehow cut jazzy phe/sho’nuff out of the deal. it’s called karma. don’t believe everyone’s public persona to be a real reflection of who they are. it’s your actions when the cameras and lights are off that matter most.

it looks like all is finally BECAUSE OF THE FANS
it’s clear dat the fan are a biiiiiig part of a celebrity

an all simple exemple: chris brown. he had NO support at all except some rappers on graffiti, and BECAUSE of his fans, ( they are a lot too…) he were back on top
and he’ll all his life thanxs his fans back

cici’s fans, let’s go!!! give all your life

    and to finish
it’s really sad because “basic instinct” is a damn good rnb album like we don’t see enough anymore

when i see dat recovery from eminem sell a lot , too much actually!!!!!
it was bad really bad what he did except “not afraid” and “no love”

    promotion is everything too
    FANS AND PROMOTION
in the case of cici, i think it’s more promotion
she didn’t come on a french show to promote!!! (i’m french) crazy!!

and what se realesed (ride, gimme dat) are too “rnb” for comercial radios . its’ the BIG problem of the radios right now (not all but most
    of them)

cici is too much good for comercial radios
    and the promotion is wack
and her fans need to support her

i think we just resolved the problem girl!

what hurts me mostly is all those awesome songs on her 4th album: Turn it up, Yeah i know, You can get it, …. but I think she could keep promotiing Basic Instinct with another Label like JLO does presently since LOUBOUTINS from EPIC is due to be on her LOVE? album! Got a lot of HOPES and WISHES for CIARA, she’s wow!

Off The Evolution: Get Up, Promise, Like a Boy, Can’t Leave ‘Em Alone, My Love, Bang It Up, I Proceed and That’s Right
Off Fantasy Ride: High Price, When I, Like a Surgeon, Tell Me What Your Name Is, Turntables, Ciara to the Stage, Work and I’m On
Off Basic Instinct: Turn It Up, Yeah I Know, Heavy Rotation, Gimmie Dat, You Can Get It, Wants for Dinner and Ride

Gimme Dat is garbage, and I glad it got no radio plays. Ciara is the one who should blame herself for why her two last albums suck ass. She’s the one that was promoting it like its the shit, and really, it was shit. I hated everything about it.
