Rap-Up.com || Ashanti Recalls First Time Meeting Nelly

Nelly and Ashanti have kept their relationship on the hush-hush for the past few years, but the R&B songstress is dishing the dirt on when the two first met. In Nelly’s upcoming “Behind the Music” special, the former Murder Inc. mami explains that she played hard to get when he first approached her.

“The first time I met Nelly he asked me for my autograph, but I think he was being sarcastic and I remember writing it down on the program,” recalls the R&B princess of running into her beau at a press conference for the 2003 Grammy Awards. “That picture has been in so many publications as something else but it all started out as a joke. For the record, it took him a long time to get my number.”

Though the couple has gotten hot and heavy over the years, the “Just a Dream” rapper previously revealed that he’s in no rush to tie the knot. “I think you really have to be friends first. It’s not about how long it takes,” Nelly told Rap-Up TV. “I’m not a person that wants to get married more than once. If I’ma do it, I’ma do it. You’re dying if you leave me.”

Nelly’s “Behind the Music” episode airs March 7 at 10 p.m. EST on VH1.

it was crazy that a few months ago, nelly stated they were just friends or something to that effect and now that his album isn’t selling, he’s “opening” up about their relationship. they should’ve tried to capitalize off of this story a few years ago…not now when neither one of them are “hot” in music.

@listen, totally agree with you. When Nelly dissed Ashanti like that I was done with him & his old 30-something acting like a 9 yr old boy clowning a girl he likes self. He really played this wrong from my perspective, I always thought that they made a nice looking couple and like seeing them grow into a mature couple but he ruined that image for me and although I remain an Ashanti fan, I cannot with Nelly.

I really like Ashanti and hope she’s happy. As for Nelly, I stopped liking him after the Tip Drill video. It was so disrespectful to women, in my opinion. Men should be empowering women – not treating them like cheap whores and sex objects – especially black men. Black women have had it hard enough and don’t need to keep being made into that stereotype. It’s sad that he doesn’t get that. He keeps making excuses. He always maintained that it wasn’t his idea about the credit card swipe in the video. Just because the video model asked him to swipe a charge card in the crack of her butt didn’t mean that he had to do it. He’s missing the point. He had say about what happened. If I say to a friend that I want to go rob a bank, she doesn’t have to do it because it’s my idea. That’s dumb. We all have brains and should use them. Does he not have a mind of his own? Come on. Let’s grow up and take responsibility for our actions already.

ashanti cant sing in real life and nelly havent made a hit record in years so oh well more power to them.. @ supernova if u watch mtv vh1 the girl asked nelly to do that in the video.. these video girls know what they are getting themselves into when they show up at the casting calls .. just my opinion…
