Rap-Up.com || Video: JoJo Covers Jill Scott’s ‘Whenever You’re Around’

JoJo showed off her powerful pipes on YouTube, covering one of her favorite artists Jill Scott. The 20-year-old songbird wowed with an acapella rendition of the neo-soul singer’s “Whenever You’re Around” performed in her kitchen.

“It’s a dream of mine to work with Ms. Scott. She is a Queen to me,” tweeted JoJo, who last week announced that Jumping Trains would be the new title of her long-awaited third album.

As for Jill, she recently signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records and will release her fourth studio album The Light of the Sun later this year.

JoJo has sooooo much depth and versatility to her voice, talents, and interests that I think that she is often pigeon-holed as being a white-pop artist, when the girl is clearly more than that. Being a pop artist has its financial benefits, but I would love to hear more music like this from JoJo as she can actually perform these songs extremely well. JoJo can sing her ass off (did you hear her play with her falsetto, lower-notes…the octave changes, and riffs…JoJo is a beast). It would be amazing if Jill Scott writes a song for her, because I think that it would be a beautiful song!!! All in All, Team JoJo :-)

Jojo is one of the smallest with one of the biggest voices around!
Underrated and underexposed and always recording songs that are not big enough for her:
change ur team gurl
sell less
but do what you like
when you look at the charts , you have no reason to want to be compared with other girls in the top 10 of the US charts…all of them overmarketed barbie dolls…u so much mre than that!

I can’t believe you people been sleeping on JoJo like this. She been blowing her ass off, even at the age of 13. JoJo’s Runs, Rifts, Lower register and control is everything. People think she is just a Pop singer, but she been singing Neo-Soul R&B all her life. Nobody messing with her vocals.
