Erykah Badu Soothes Souls at Coachella![]() Erykah Badu spread peace, love, and happiness on Day 2 of Coachella. After a slight delay, the neo-soul songstress hit the main stage in a sheer shall, rolled up overalls, gold accessories, and a black hat. She opened with “20 Feet Tall” from her latest album New Amerykah Part Two, performing crowd favorites like “Appletree” and her mainstay “On and On.” But like Cee Lo Green before her, Erykah’s set ended abruptly when her microphone was cut due to her tardiness. She politely smiled, then tossed the mic head into the audience to express her disappointment. Odd Future, including superfan Tyler, the Creator, and Wynter Gordon were spotted soaking up the sounds of Ms. Badu.

What is it with these soul artists and always being late to their shows? Like Lauryn Hill, I hear that Erykah Badu is usually late to a lot of her shows. Regardless though, I am such a die hard Erykah fan. “New Amerykah Part Two” is such a refreshing album. Even though it came out a year ago everytime I play it it still feels so new.

I loved it!!! Erykah is so genuine and pure in her actions, that it’s funny how judging her is a waste of time – you must accept her for her, which I do happily :-) The music was great, the instrumentation was off-the-chain, the background singers did their thing – this is what you call a live performance. I’ve seen Erykah live a number of times, and I love the way that she integrates the audience into show. She feeds off of your energy and sends her positive vibes back, which makes her concerts one of a kind.
I really like the way she kindly ask the tech-guys to adjust her mic, but managed to perform effortlessly despite the technical issues; but when she threw the mic at the end (in a “I’m Rick James bitch” type of way) and her background singer’s reaction – pure comedy for that azz lol. Next time they’ll get her reverb right lol :-)
