Cee Lo Green

Cee Lo Green is singing a new tune. The R&B crooner had everyone singing along to his expletive-laced hit “Fuck You.” And now he’s rewritten it for a good cause. Cee Lo joins Duracell and the National Volunteer Fire Council for the “Power Those Who Protect Us” program to help support and raise awareness for volunteer firefighters across the U.S.

The Lady Killer’s connection to the campaign is personal. His mother served as a volunteer firefighter and when he was 16 years old, a group of local volunteer firefighters pulled her to safety following a near-fatal car accident.

The softer song, renamed “Thank You,” will serve as an ode to the firefighters who put their lives at risk daily to protect their communities, with lyrics such as, “For a lifetime of service in the name of love, I wanna thank you … And all our lives have been blessed ’cause you’re simply the best and we thank you.”

Cee Lo explained why he decided to get involved. “As entertainers in the public light, we have a unique opportunity to raise awareness for causes close to our hearts through our greatest passion: music,” he stated. “That’s why I am proud to join the ‘Power Those Who Protect Us’ cause, to tell my own story and shed light on the tireless sacrifices our nation’s volunteers make each and every day to protect their communities.”

Watch him pay respect to the country’s brave men and women in the viral video featuring heroic images of firefighters.

The song is available as a free download for a limited time on Duracell’s Facebook page.
