New Music: Lady Gaga – ‘The Edge of Glory’

The Edge of Glory

Lady Gaga powers through her rock ballad “The Edge of Glory,” the latest offering from her highly-anticipated album Born This Way (May 23). Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band plays the saxophone on the ’80s electronic cut, which “demands to be a big fat hit,” according to Rolling Stone.

“I’m on the edge of glory and I’m hanging on a moment of truth/ I’m on the edge of glory and I’m hanging on a moment with you,” sings Gaga on the stadium-sized hook.

Witness the pop juggernaut in all her glory.

For the last time there is nothing new or edgy about Lady GaGa’s music. This is the most generic sounding pop song I have ever heard.

same shit as everything else on the radio? I’m sorry, when was the last time you heard a pop song that worked with elements of an 80s rock throwback AND the sax? If you don’t like pop music fair enough, but this is revolutionary in terms of relative comparisons.

@Adam, no, My life would suck without you 2.0

I love it, and for all the people who are saying “oh how generic” and whatnot. Not all her songs can be edgy and different. I think she’s very smart for giving a lil variety

    [Reply]

  14. AFemmeFATALE

um remind you of “My Life Suck Without You” by Kelly Clarkson much???? I like the song but im used to GaGa making new sounds and changing up the way music sounds and this music, JUST LIKE “Born This Way” sounds just like another artist’s song…..TSK TSK GAGA!!!!!!!! I still LOVE Judas tho :D

Amazing song! Nothing like whats on the radio, yes its a dance song but it has soul and has a 80′s feel to it along with a freakin saxophone…A SAXOPHONE for God’s sake! lol

It’s cool but so far i don’t think her album sounds like it’s going to be the best album of the decade, like she said it is going to be. Who knows, that’s just my opinion based on the first three songs she has released.

This sounds nothing like the radio today, it sounds exactly like the music from a years back.

As long as Gaga copies music from different times, she doesn’t need to be original.

    [Reply]

    windrider2 Reply:

@Alfred Islas, Wow I guess no one can write a rock n roll tune, or an R&B tune, or disco, or techno or any other genre that’s ever been done because then it’s not original. Gaga writes in different genres, as does EVERY SONGWRITER. That’s why it’s called genre, a musical style. There hasn’t been an entirely new musical genre in 50+ years. Everything germinates and grows from the seeds of the music that comes before. That’s what art is and that’s what artists do. Get a f’ing clue.

This song has lots and lots of potential. Is it moe or has everything that has been released from “Born This Way” so far have to grow on you? I eventually fall in love with the songs but I never like them on first listen. Right now I can’t stop listening to “Judas” and I’m sure the same will go for this. I saw some of her HBO special and her live-performances are amazing. Sometimes I don’t understand all the hype behind her but she really is a force to be reckoned with when she’s on the stage. Can’t wait for the new album.

so…’born this way’…good song…but was to gay even for gay people…they said it first!…lol…’judas’…sounds like ‘alexandro’ and ‘bad romance’ had an inbread son…that song sucked…but now this…this is pretty good…it does sound like kelly clarkson…and everything else on the radio…but the joy i find about her is that her songs dont sound like songs until she strips them down and sings on a piano…or a youtube cover from somebody else random…thats when she shines in my opinion…this is the best song off the album so far

I feel like this song needs a break down. Like a bridge. A 3rd verse. When I was listening I felt like I was waiting for something that never came. And the sax solo is whatever. Katy Perry did it on “T.G.I.F.” so it didn’t catch me by surprise.

People gonna overrate, this is just average, try and understand that Gaga lyrics are awful, her music is noticed because of the beat.
meh, Born this Way and Judas were huge disappointments, this song is just average, Gaga’s obviously losing her touch yet publications overrate her music for no apparent reason.

    [Reply]

  43. Cyn.

Publications getting paid to praise gaga? I just don’t get it.
This song is average at best.
The chorus sounds exactly like Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You: the beat as well as the vocals.
The lyrics of the chorus are just pathetic. She keeps repeating one sentence over and over.
The word “edge” is used at least over 50 time during the song. Beyond annoying.
The saxophone is totally out of place and yet another gimmick from the past.
She is trying so hard to push herself as original, but she always ends up in someone else’s shoes.
This is the 3rd rip-off in a row from her brand new and “original” album.
First there was Born this way/Express Yourself 2.0
Then there was Judas/Bad Romance 2.0
    Now it’s Kelly Clarkson…..
