New Music: Rock City – ‘Dark Cloud’ (Akon Diss)![]() R. City aka Rock City are airing out their former label boss Akon. After five years, eight mixtapes, and a collection of hits written for artists including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and R. Kelly, the singing-songwriting duo were never given a release date for their album on Konvict Records/Interscope. So they launched a public campaign called PTFAO (Put the F**king Album Out), and after two years of campaigning, Akon met with the Virgin Islands natives in March and offered them the option of staying with him or being released from their contract. They opted for the latter and are now independently prepping their debut Free at Last on their own label Rebelution Records, featuring the first single “We On.” They don’t hold back when addressing the split on one of the cuts, “Dark Cloud.” “What’s a label when your CEO is an artist whose only obvious motive is focusing on his own shit?” they ask. “Now all that man really cares about is getting laid and thinks that he’s invincible because he hella paid.” Listen to them go rogue below.

@jay, WTF are yall on? They had some great songs on those mixtapes. Definitely radio friendly. They should have been leading the whole island invasion (Sean Kingston, Iyaz, MOhombi, etc.)

@yooo, You know the 15 year old girl? She acted like a whore, she danced like a whore, then she gonna treating like a whore. She asked about it. She got up to the stage and danced like a fucking slut, so i dont know why the fuck Akon apologizing.
the fucking stupid parents do not fit on his daughter. and she was on a 18 year’s party, as she knew, so if the parents had been a little more sure of where she went, etc, and the girl didnt come in, that had never happened!
PS I LOVE YOU AKON!

I really aint got nothin against Akon, but this shit is fuckin dope. Rock City really know how to create a dope ass track. Too bad their album was not released through a major label. Releasing an independant album is like releasing a mixtape to me.

Real sh!t here. I like this. Record Companies are shady. They sign artists with no intention of releasing their CD. Ask J. Cole, ask Big Sean, ask even Willow Smith! Artists better get educated on the business of music & do their homework.

This isn’t the first time. Akon also dropped the ball on Jamaican singer Tami Chynn’s cd. She was supposed to come out as well but the project never got put out. Same thing also is happening with Jamaican artists Brick and Lace. Akon needs to leave our Caribbean people ALONE! Stop giving them false hope like you’re gonna do something with them. When we know damn well the soonest you find yourself your next Gaga you’ll drop them like you’ve dropped these poor artist.

@IamWhoIam, I was so mad at him for abandoning Tami. Akon is the new Diddy. Every career he’s in charge of(except for Gaga’s) fails. Tami, Brick & Lace, Colby… SMFH

no hate to akon, im a big fan, but he deff screwed them over on this one.

@phyline, Why would you hate akon. Rock city is just full of crap. He tried to launch their careers but there music wasn’t good enough to get success

well, akon may not have launched their careers, but he did a great job with lady gaga and t-pain. i’d say he’s contributed more than enough to artist development. rock city is good though.

i’d like to hear akons side. But i loved r. city till this. I understand there isn’t good shit going on here but they shouldn’t have disrespected him like that. He gave them their chance to be where they are at. Its that saying “don’t forget where you cam from” and “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”.

@asunkee,
no man i mean akon paved the way for them to get ON THE SCENE. they even said so. they were in poverty till kon brought them to america and shit. i agree with them elaving but the way they did it by dissing him and disrespecting him is wrong.
