« Nicole Scherzinger Covers Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ [Video]Chris Brown Gives Fan a Lap Dance at Miami Concert [Video] »J. Cole Single Delayed by Kanye West Sample![]() J. Cole told fans that he would deliver the first single from his long-awaited debut last week, but nothing materialized. The Roc Nation rapper resurfaced online to address the reason for the holdup. “I sampled a Kanye West song, but the problem is, [there's] like five writers that he gave credit to,” Cole explained during a Ustream session. “When you’re clearing a sample, every writer has to be contacted. So you have to contact each and every one of them and get it cleared, so it’s tougher than the average one. As soon as it clears, we’re puttin’ it out.” He originally hoped to release it in time for Memorial Day weekend. “It’s perfect for the summer. It’s beautiful,” he shared. “I can’t wait till ya’ll hear it and then hear the sample and the original and how I did it. I don’t feel like nobody would’ve thought to flip it like that or even would’ve heard that part.” Cole’s as-yet-untitled album, which will include 14 or 15 tracks, has been completed and will feature a song with his Roc Nation boss and mentor Jay-Z. “I did the song for Jay—finally, finally, finally. It’s fucking crazy.” While his debut hasn’t even hit stores, he’s close to wrapping album number two. “[I'm] probably about 70% [done with] the second album. I’m tryna drop two in a year. I’m tryna come back maybe eight, nine months after,” he said. He hopes to drop another mixtape in the summer and sees gold gramophones in the near future. “I’m tryna win that Grammy, tryna pull some Lauryn Hill shit.” You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. 54 CommentsLeave a Reply

don’t be such a hater, him using another person’s beat doesn’t mean his lyricism won’t be amazing

@Nt, Mostly every song has a sample . Cole is in his own lane , so even if that song doesn’t work out – he will still be ahead of everybody else .

@Nt, rap and hip hop are like the grocery stores on a sunday: everybody has samples. Kanye Samples and makes beats for jay: Its a hard knock life. And what kanye does is art. he pulls together 3 or 4 different songs of no relation and puts them in a song, and they flow. Do you have a mind to be able to do that? NO. i dont see what the crime is though, he isnt claiming he made the song from scratch, or put out a song with an almost identical sound as another artists (like in the 80′s… so many billy joel and elton john songs sound alike). And drakes first single “Best I ever Had” samples “fallin in love” by Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds

Okay, I’ve been a huge fan of this guy for almost 2 years but he is really p*ssing me off. Don’t put a date on your album and then keep pushing it further and further back. First is was October of 2010, then December, then January, February, April, now Summer. WTF! He say’s the album is done, and ‘amazing’ but he’s waiting for the right time. His right time already passed, because he hasn’t been putting out anything, so everybody doesn’t even worry about him anymore! He should have dropped it a month after FNL. Then the single. What was Who Dat? I thought that was a single. Sounds like he doesn’t know what to do. I’m disappointed because I really liked this guy but he’s almost back off the map. And what’s up with the mixtape? Nobody wants another mixtape, just drop the dang album!
He says he wants to keep his fans starving, but it’s only so much you can starve before you die.

What’s wrong with sampling? One of the album’s of the year, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, contained 12 songs, and ELEVEN songs on that album had a prominent sample. To be honest, without sampling Hip-Hop wouldn’t even be half of what it is today. Sampling almost makes hip-hop.

and that’s the same reason why hip-hop is dead since years ago! it’s like the put all the effort in the lyrics forgetting about the most important part of music, and that’s the music itself

@H•A•M, There’s nothing wrong with sampling, but it’s not the industry’s ordinary rapper – It’s Ye! Everybody knows his the greatest, so it’s going to be hard for him to crack. Plus Cole is dope, but is no way near Kanye’s status! But I hope the guy does well he deserves it!!!

sampling is a fundamental part of hip hop, producers were sampling as early as the beginning of the golden era in the 90s by legendary producers such as DJ Premier

Um….some of you guys are so foolish. Like someone else said, sampling has been a part of Hip-Hop since the BEGINNING. Read the liner notes of your favorite songs by your favorite artists past or present and see the many samples and interpolations.

It’s not his fault Roc Nation is more about their singers (Rihanna, Willow Smith) then rappers. Jay Z never lets a rapper truly shine under him. Fabolous and Joe Budden were both under him before and both good rappers when you listen to their mixtapes as far as metaphors, storytelling, overall lyricism really and delivery (moreso Joe Budden with the way he enunciates and emphasizes certain words) but he couldn’t stand to make him look as good or better then him. If Kanye hadn’t produced some of Jay’s classics he might not have seen the light of day either.
JCole is educated and pays attention to industry so he’ll make it on his terms. He’s basically only supported by his label financially. Wiz Khalifa , Wale, and now Big Sean going to blow before him? Ha, they’re decent but J.Cole is on a diff level.

@ughreally, I didn’t know fabolous and joe Budden was signed to Jay z, maybe I did but forgot about it cuz they never shined like he shouldve.
I think the label is probably waiting because they want a hit before releasing an album, usually that’s how it works. SO they can ship enough albums for him to have decent numbers. They want more buzz around him.

Why is everybody so upset about the sampling… just wait till you hear it and then critisize… I cant wait for the album and especially the track feuturing jayz.. I mean jay has to go really hard to outshine cole like he did on a star is born lol. But jay and kanye need to put lift off out, or something else..

@ J.Cole if you are reading this comment: J.Cole you have just seriously messed up guy. I am pretty sure now with all these annoying delays of your album…more people are gonna download your album over buying it now when you do release it. Expect low sales if this album isn’t even close to the level of your mixtapes. You did this s.h.i.t. to yourself..you can’t blame no one else for your own fails. We like your music, but you are proving to be a bum. Excuses have their limits, and you are at your limit. If you don’t put your album out soon..you can forget about your career blowing up, because it won’t now or ever will. If we knew you were gonna be like this you should of just stayed underground. And Drake at this point has nothing to fear from you…lame. Jay-Z might end up letting you go if you keep up this pace, because you aren’t bring anything to the table for him to consider keeping you. Big Sean is doing more than you are as far as getting his album out, and he isn’t even the better artist. You’re looking overrated as hell to your fans and everybody else dude. This is a true sentiment. You have a college education, but you are slacking big time son. You better get your shit together A.S.A.P.

@ProtoTon972, so true, i mean he cant complain about his album selling low numbers if he keeps at this pace. Cole wanted to work on his album by his self without any help. Plus, jay-Z even gave a feature for the album, so there are NO excuses now…
