Keyshia Cole Covers Mary J. Blige’s ‘I’m Goin’ Down’ in L.A. [Video]
Keyshia Cole paid tribute to one of her idols, Mary J. Blige, while on R. Kelly’s “Love Letter” tour. The Oakland songstress once again covered the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’s My Life classic “I’m Goin’ Down,” originally performed by Rose Royce in 1977, live at the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles last night. She had the audience singing along to her soulful rendition. Let us know what you think of Keysh’s cover.

I went to the concert and heard her live and she was spectacular. Every song she sang sounded awesome. Hands down the girl has the vocals. Maybe you don’t care for her personally but hands down vocally she can beat Mary J. Mary J has improved from when she first came out and has built a following but Keyshia has natural talent.

Some of ya’ll are really delusional or so willing to trash a young sis doing her thing that you can’t hear. Keyshia sounds great in this clip. Has she had some off performances in the past? – Yes, but not this one. Also this is not Mary’s song, it’s Rose Royce’s so Mary is NOT the definitive voice of this song, Gwen Dickey IS!!
Remember back in 2003 when Mary gave a series of wack, off-key performances and blogs were calling for HER to sit? No? Well I do!! Mary has had more than her share of poor performances and is now heralded as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul so I am sure that with the opportunity to perform more, Keyshia will get stronger as a performer as well.
Sorry for the rant, just sick of the hate that permeates these sites towards young, talented Black female r&b singers.

Im a fan of mary, but realisticly speaking I throughly enjoyed this performance.I was at this show. She brings soul and passion into songs. Something that most artist cant do!!! Every performer has off moments, but this was actually good…
So stop judging her. She’s a very talented young lady, who has a long career ahead of her!!!
