« Video: Tinie Tempah f/ Wiz Khalifa – ‘Till I’m Gone’Cee Lo Green Interviews Keri Hilson [Video] »Missy Elliott Tells Her Story on VH1′s ‘Behind the Music’ [Video]![]() Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott stepped into the spotlight on VH1’s “Behind the Music.” The hour-long special documented how Melissa Arnette Elliott changed the face of music with commentary from her family and friends including Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Ciara, Timbaland, Magoo, and MC Lyte. “I thought I had something that was unique,” said the hip-hop innovator. “I wanted to break down all barriers and be a risk taker.” She opened up about being sexually abused by her cousin, witnessing her father try to kill her mother, losing her friend and collaborator Aaliyah, and her more recent battle with Graves’ Disease, plus reflected on happier times when she met Timbaland, received calls from Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson in the same month, and bought her mom a house. Missy is now looking to the future and is working on her new album Block Party with Timbaland. “I was telling somebody that we have been so far left in trying to stay creative and being different; we had to go back to the drawing board and just do it the way we loved to do it, and not be concerned with trying to outdo ourselves,” she recently told the Los Angeles Times. Watch the full episode of “Behind the Music” below.

Her story was incredible. Missy is the ORIGINAL for innovation & createtivity in this Hip Hop game. Mary even said it. We need Missy back in the game badly. Missy & Timbaland can’t be touched. Missy rocks. # realhiphoplegend. Missy changed the game for female rappers. #truestory

I cannot WAIT for Missys new album. Shes an artist u can always count on for a hot album u dont even have to question it like some other artists who drop one hot album and there next one is pure crap, Nope missy doesnt do that to her fans. She make sure that shit comes out right and when she drops her videos it matches . Thats why shes an icon, always reinventing her sound, coming with something new and taking it to that next level, thats what a TRUE artist does.

Her eyes really changed, they are not the same anymore because of the disease. She used to be sooo pretty, not that she isnt pretty anymore but she definitely lost a lot of prettyness… I am really glad she is feeling fine though cause she is an icon!

So much respect for her after seeing more about how she transcended her struggles. Daily, incomprehensibly, people squabble over the most insignificant details of famous people’s lives while they are living them, rising above the hardships that are both known and unknown to everyone else. It makes such squabbles seem doubly stupid.
