Rap-Up.com || Album Snippets: Kelly Rowland

The countdown is on to Kelly Rowland’s third solo album Here I Am. With less than three weeks to go before it arrives in stores on July 26, Amazon satisfies hungry fans with 30-second snippets.

The 10-track standard edition features the Lil Wayne-assisted smash “Motivation,” along with second single “Lay It on Me” featuring Big Sean and the dance floor-ready “Commander” produced by David Guetta.

Houston rapper Lil Playy turns up on the Rodney Jerkins-helmed banger “Work It Man” and Rico Love can be heard on the slinky “All of the Night.” Other A-list producers include Tricky Stewart (“I’m Dat Chick”), The Runners (“All of the Night”), and RedOne (“Down for Whatever”).

at last! she’s on the top right now!
but i dunno, on my very first listen i feel like:
“i’m dat chick” sounds like jessie j’s “do it like a dude”
“work it man” sounds like keri’s “knock you down”.
“lay it on me” sounds like jlo’s “i’m into you” / nicole’s “right there”
“down for whatever” is just an ordinary dance song (redone n david guetta sounds the same as always)
i like that the tracks r brand new (and hot), not like jlo’s “Love?” which has old tracks n sounds like only album filler.
so far “all of the night” and “keep it between us” hooked me instantly.
MOTIVATION is definitely the stand-out track.
Kelly all the way!

After listening to the snippet, I’m not interested in buying the album. I was thinking the whole album would be “motivation” direction. I’m definitely illegally downloading only 2 songs and that’s it.
I do know she would flop though. Just being honest.
I mean pitbull has the #1 single in the country and not low budget rnb/hiphop chart and he only pushed 35,000 copies on his first weeks album sales.

First off let me start off by saying that I have been a Kelly Rowland fan since the early DC days and been riding the solo train with her since 2000 when she was featured on Avant’s remix “Separated”. To me she always stood out to me and her voice is pure gold – the way she connects with her songs (no matter the genre) is still unmatched to this day. She makes you beleive whatever she sings and you dont see that everyday. She makes music thats true to her and isnt just looking for a quick hit.

As for her acheivements, she has sold over 4 millions albums and well over 10 millions singles – 5 grammys – more awards to boot.

6 Hot 100 Top 40s (1 solo (stole) 2 lead (like this/motivation) 3 featured (delimma/here we go/separated)5 Top 10 R&B (stole/like this/motivation/delimma/here we go/separated).

Now back to the album review of the preview lol.

This album is exactly what it needs to be and it represents Kelly fully – Its basically a musical representation of who she is as a person. Rooted in R&B with splashes of Pop and Dance which is exactly who kelly is. For the haters who continue to throw shade its all good – you guys will probably end up downloading it anyway and for the people who wanted more dance – don’t forget the deluxe version has 2 more tracks and I can vouch personally that “Each Other” is pure sonic fire.

She has something for everyone really.

RnB fans: Im That Chick (fav)/ Work It Man / Motivation /Lay it On Me/Feelin Me……Dance: Commander/Each Other/Turn It Up/Down For WhateverBallad – Keep it Between Us/ Heaven and Earth

What else do u really want. Seriously. Plus the obvious reason for the majority of the RnB tracks is because A – it takes her back to her roots and B – all of her core rnb fans kept saying that kelly abandoned them when she went “dance” so she is trying to reconnect with them plus she already has 12 top 40s in the UK – they love her and she knows it – now she is trying to expand her urban fan base. The only real rnb songs she has released is “Separated/Delimma/Like This/Motivation”. She is kinda playing catch up with the her urban fan base (who shouldve copped Ms Kelly if it was that serious)

All in all I am very suprised at how much im lovin this album. When I first saw the tracklist I was kinda disappointed when I saw it was only 10 tracks and 12 with the deluxe but truth be told, Id rather have a cd with 12 hot tracks then and cd with 17 songs that 6 i have to skip over!
Ms Kelly did that with a nice blend of rnb and dance with a balld or two – Kelly Rowland to the core and I cant wait to get my copy of the deluxe version!!!

For as long as she’s been working on this I must say I was expecting a lot more. I guess it’s pretty hard to judge with just 30 second clips but I mean seriously, all these songs I feel like could’ve been recorded in 1 week and rushed into a 10-song album. I am rooting for Kelly so of course I am going to buy this and I wish her the best. “Lay It On Me” is a great move though for a second single because I think it could be just as successful as “Motivation” at urban radio.

And as much as this has been debated in the past, I really appreciate Kelly’s more dance oriented sound. I feel like David Guetta brought out the best in her with his songs on his “One Love” album. Everytime I hear her on a dance song I am amazed at how liberated she sounds. But strategically I can see how her label wants her to cater to her urban fanbase because at the end of the day, straight up dance music doesn’t really sell. I hope her international release of “Here I Am” will contain more dance songs.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the album but some of the tracks DO sound a little underwhelming, especially the final track which you can tell is just RedOne reusing stuff *again* from his more recent work.

And is anyone kinda disappointed with the album length!? Ten songs? Three we’ve already heard from months ago?

In the end, when the album comes out, I’ll be enjoying BOTH Here I Am AND “4″. Whoa.. that sounds hard to believe doesn’t it for some of you ignorant stans on this site >_>

@Oh Please, kelly does have some disappointing songs but i hope that it is just the snippet that sounds bad because i was really amped up for this album, especially with motivation and lay it on me. but i am very disappointed that there are only 10 tracks that is more like an EP not an album, and the deluxe edition only has two new tracks and a remix, kelly really disappointed me, so im not sure if im going to waste 12 dollars on 10 songs.

she has a lot of club bangers which all sound like HITS! i was hoping for a few more ballads but i still like what im hearing!i cant wait to hear feelin me right now, all of the night and keep it between us.

oh and to the bey stans just because bey has had more success in her solo career doesnt mean she is better. and im sure kelly wont sell half as much as bey but that doesnt mean her album is worst either. kelly’s talents are very under rated. im am NOT a kelly stan just hate bias ppl!

I really do not see the point of negativity. Why is the incessant comparisons to Beyonce necessary? They have two different names, birth certificates, addresses, careers, etc. Why is it that these HATERS always talk shit? (Especially Beyonce fans). It’s completely UNCALLED FOR! I BET YOU Beyonce loves and supports Kelly and her albums and Kelly the same for Beyonce. Kelly is finally getting the shine that she’s deserved for so long and HATERS have to come and take away from that? Why is that? Are you THAT unhappy with yourself? You guys are talking nonsense about people who you DO NOT KNOW! Artist put out music for the public to enjoy,NOT to war over! And what HATERS don’t realize is no matter how much SHIT you talk or how much you dislike an artist, you are actually promoting them. Every single time you mention a person’s name, you are PROMOTING THEM while DEGRADING yourself by making people recognize you as a hater who has nothing better to do with their time! I love Kelly and Beyonce. They are both FANTASTIC artists and have both accomplished things MANY in the world WILL NOT get the chance to experience to.

Some of you shouldn’t be saying that Kelly’s third album is a flop ’til after first week sales. It’s like last year when we had Ciara stans saying she’ll top, when she only sold about 7K. That’s pretty disappointing, and that’s what you call a flop.

I do think this would be Kelly’s year, if she makes all the right moves and campaigns.

It’s a good album and it fits in today’s music, but it’s not going to be a timeless album.

It’s very generic, lyrically poor…
Destiny’s Child’s music is still a pleasure to listen to today. I can’t say that about this album.

I want Kelly to do songs like “Stole”. That will never lose their power and give me goosebumps everytime I listen to ‘em.
All I’m saying is that I know for a fact that Kelly is capable of so much more than this.
