Machine Gun Kelly Inks Deal with Bad Boy

Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly is the newest member of the Bad Boy family. After creating underground buzz with his mixtapes and live shows, the Cleveland rapper has inked a deal with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ iconic label.

MGK, who became the first MC in history to win Amateur Night at the Apollo, officially announced his signing to Bad Boy/Interscope Records today. He has developed a devoted following of fans and has already performed at festivals including SXSW and Bamboozle.

“The moment we started the EST 19XX movement during the recording of the Lace Up mixtape, I made a pledge to my fans to protect our brand and become the honest voice of our generation,” said MGK. “We represent the underdogs, the outcast, the uncool. We are a true cult with a loud voice.”

MGK caught the attention of Diddy with his viral videos, Lace Up mixtape, and self-made story. “MGK is a breath of fresh air,” stated Combs. “He’s not just a star, he’s a movement!” added Harve Pierre, President of Bad Boy: “MGK is a great addition to the Bad Boy team. He speaks for a generation of kids who are just like him. Fans relate immediately to his lyrics, his flow, and his energetic live performances.”

Machine Gun Kelly is in the studio working on his debut album, Lace Up, for release on EST 19XX/Bad Boy/Interscope Records.

Either he’s desperate or don’t know any better because Bad Boy kills all their artist careers, so if he didn’t do any research before he sign whatever happen I don’t want to see you bitching about Bad Boy not supporting your project.

@Put That On Everythang, I was thinking the same exact thing, but hopefully he’ll have more drive than the other artist and continue to build his buzz up and not expect things to change over night, at least he has the chance most don’t …being signed to a major label and having a shot at being a big time artist.

I hope the curse of Bad Boy doesnt touch him and they REALLY support and develop his music. I think what diddy liked about him is because of his hustle, Hunger and the fact that he has a strong fan base allready.

I really don’t understand why so many rappers fall for the kiss of death that is Bad Boy. Never run with a label where the owner can’t even manage his own rap career and even disbands a semi-popular girl group so he can be HBIC in his own girl group.

I agree that he shouldnt of signed with bad Boy but could this be the one artist that make it on badboy ?
Maybe Diddy finally realized that this can can bring the label back. MGK i think is dang good. Everyone calling him a wigger but he sure dont act like one he is true to his own style. Wasnt he shopping other labels at all? why cant Young Money or someone else signed him other than Diddy. Diddy dont screw this one up this could be your label comeback. or will MGK be signed to some off indi label like Donnie klang ans Day26 are now

    [Reply]

  30. scubasteve

shit you get dropped these days from a major if you only move 500k copies start your own shit sign with a small indie first and you will make more money selling 150K units on a indie than 500k units on a major

You need to move millions of units to get paid because those majors needs to share that profit with all the execs, AR team, Diddy, diddy lawyers, to many hands in the pot these days for what so you can say your signed with a major. Your the artist they make money off you. start at an indie and make them come to you.then you can lay down what the deal should be. Indie music has put a major dent into the major labels because they now need to make the deals better from them because they are losing so much money to the indie labels. Shit look at all the producers out there or what we cal beat makers. Timba stroch yes they got paid but you will NEVER see another producer get 100k for a track anymore. I know guys that have credits for Sony/BMG/Shady/ with tracks for Gucci Mane,Slaughter House, some are RIAA Gold Certified and these dude still selling tracks for 250 dollars and recording people at 25 per house just to pay their bills. Producers are dime a dozen these days you can find plenty of bangers out there for 100 dollars per track and if the rent is due you can get them for 50 bucks. Pro tools , FL 10, Sonar X1 are great programs but made it to easy for all of use to be producers and beat makers

    [Reply]

  31. scubasteve

example why there are to many hands on the pot.
50 cent. has G unit records which is part of Shady records which is part of aftermath records which is part of interscope not much money left for the artist after all those hands get what they got coming per the contract. Majors only want you if you created a buzz already and the reason for that is they dont want to do their job. they want artist with a buzz and following so they can get a return on their money sooner. Majors are a business and a business to make profit only. All the majors were start up companies this is the generation for start up companies. Find yourself business manager or partner. put a business plan together shop for investors not labels and build your own major label. There are investors out there plenty of them you just need to present your self with a solid business plan and great music and you wont need the majors to make money.

Ok i am done venting. Please respond with your thoughts and let me know if you agree with what i am saying

@Steve, just heard that song from the young and reckless mixtape from dj drama that shit is sick,i hope diddy gets him some hard beats like dj drama produces, and i wonder whos gonna be featured on the album, mayby rick ross or somebody that shit would go hard

    [Reply]

    steve Reply:

@MIKE FROM CLEVELAND, that shit with Ross would go hard. But i been watching alot of the interviews with MGK and he says this is for the fans way to much. he aint fooling nobody its for him and the money because this is what he likes to do and then its for the fans. But when someone say he is doing this for the fans and cleveland to much i tend to not believe it so much. He was asked what super producers will be on the album he said none yea right he career is now owned by Badboy. I wish him alot of luck but if he just doing this for the fans he is not smart then. All the artist from the midwest tend to foget about where they came from and us like OH, IN, WI,IA,MN dont get the credit that we should be getting
