Video: J. Cole – ‘Work Out’

J. Cole

J. Cole shows his love for basketball and the ladies in the eagerly-awaited video for “Work Out,” the first single from his Roc Nation debut Cole World: The Sideline Story (Sept. 27). The laid-back clip opens with the ’80s baby singing Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” on the basketball court before grabbing the attention of some fine females passing by. He takes a liking to one girl, getting flirty with her at a party while sipping Hennessy.

The video was originally shot in L.A. in June, but was delayed because Cole wasn’t happy with the first edit that leaked and wanted to film new scenes in Brooklyn.

@Charlie, Way to stereotype. And…if you prefer rapping about champagne, haters, and women 24/7/365, I suppose Drake DOES have the upper hand.

    @Triniti, awesome, and too true

    Converse Reply:

@Cudder, Who doesnt know that? lmao Cole lyrics are way deeper and he is versatile. While Drake only has 3 topic too rap about: Girls, money, and fame smh

DOPE video ColeWorld Sept 27 album of the yr!

    [Reply]

    StarsRblind Reply:

@Converse, How do you have delusions of grandeur for someone else lmao. It’s not about the story they tell but how they tell it that makes them a good rapper. If you like a Cole story better than a Drake one it doesn’t mean he’s a better rapper. That’s like saying Dr. Seuss is better than Shakespeare because he doesn’t usually talk about love and success.

@JHP, At thee same time : Drake is a bigger artist right now . J. Cole is still trying to gain mainstream fans . He’s a great rapper that is not highly known yet .

the verses are unique and the chorus is Epic

    J. Cole had it all when he came in. He was hungry, excited, on a mission. I would still not mind if people started emulating and imitating him like they have so many others…but this video…I dont know…it is boring and kind of cheezy. I’m really hoping this isnt a representation of Cole World…I’m still pullin for him to be number one and to have next tho…no matter what

I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS A SINGLE AND FOR THOSE COMPARING HIM TO DRAKE THE DIFFERENCE IS DRAKE IS A MATURED ARTIST AND J.COLE IS STILL TRYING TO FIND HIS STEP… I MEAN AM A BIG J.COLE FAN HE IS A DOPE MC AND LYRICALLY IN AN OTHER PLATFORM AND FOR HIM TO DROP THIS BS AM NOT CONVICED…

Anyone that says Drake is better obviously only follows what they see on the tv screne. Drake cant even freestyle for fu*k sakes. He doesnt produce anywhere close to as much of his own stuff as Cole. Cole writes and produces for other top artists while Drake doesnt. Cole produced that Hiiipower track by Lamar. He wrote im coming home for P. Diddy. He produced that new Elle Varner track. Really when it comes to musical talent Drake is nowhere close to Cole. Even Drake has said that Cole is his favorite rapper out.

    [Reply]

    416 Reply:

@BobbyBrown, lets not get off topic. rapping’s rapping, producing’s producing.. but drake wrote/cowrote unthinkable for alica keys which has won notable awards.

Im a fan of both cole & drizzy. j coles more of a traditional rapper.. drakes a crossover artist of sorts. theyre both dope in their own ways. grow up & accept each for what they do.

    [Reply]

    BobbyBrown Reply:

@416, Dude go watch Drake on Westwoods show. The guy cant even freestyle live. It was literally one of the most akward things I have ever seen. He produces NONE of his own music. Go look at his discography and you’ll laugh. Cole produces all his own stuff. Rapping? Are we seriously going down this road? Cole is by far the superior lyracist, he can tell a story way better and in general hes just more real then Drake. Drake is basically a actor turned mainstream rapper with the help of lots of higher ups.

Go listen to I really mean it, Unabomber, Good game, The Storm etc. Drake cant come close to rapping anywhere close to that level.

I like the vid… LOVE J. Cole. BIG supporter and BTW the comparisons between him and Drake are irrelevant.
They both speak about what they know. Drake is on a higher level of fame so of course he would rap about it.
Before J. Cole became popular, he would speak of college loans and a currupt society. Wait til they get to the same level of fame and experience before we compare. Though even then, it wouldnt MATTER! <3

    J. Cole is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9/27 beh-beh
