Drake Praises JoJo’s ‘Marvin’s Room’ Remix

Drake and JoJo

JoJo grew up right before the public’s eyes with her expletive-laced remix to Drake’s “Marvin’s Room.” The song became a viral sensation, racking up millions of plays on YouTube, and even received the stamp of approval from Drizzy himself.

Although there were several remixes to the track, JoJo’s version stood out to the Young Money rapper. “In JoJo’s case, she actually took the time to write really potent new lyrics,” he told Paper magazine.

Like many, he was taken aback by the mature content and saw the songstress in a new light. “It was really shocking, I think, for her audience since throughout her career she’s been kind of stereotyped as this teen pop star and then she comes out with this different kind of substance,” he said. “It’s very rare that people take your song and do it over like that.”

In a previous interview with MTV News, JoJo explained how the song came together. “Well, one of my friends was like, ‘Jo, you gotta hear this new Drake song!’ I loved it, and I thought Drake was really emotional and honest,” she said. “I was like, ‘This a great record,’ so I had a little time in the car ride [on my way to the airport]. So I wrote my version in the car ride, and I landed in L.A., I went to the studio, I recorded it, and the next day I put it on the Internet, and people really, really loved it. And I was totally shocked, ’cause I was scared to use the F-word, and I didn’t know how people would respond to it.”

    i don’t understand…making a song about being drunk and missing your x..that’s deep? MAN WHERE PAC @!! “Changes”, “KEEP YA HEAD UP”, “DEAR MAMA”, “BRENDA’S GOT A BABY” <<<< THOSE are deep songs. being drunk and missing your x, or complaining about how you can't trust these women..i'm sorry..bitches.. is not deep, it's actually very superficial….there ARE WOMEN out there, they just anit in the strip club/dance club. TRY college, or CHURCH :)

    @Alex!, I agree with you. People are hyping up JoJo anyway. I mean, the girl can lay down some good pipes, but her music just doesn’t do it for me.

    @Lisa, just b/c it doesn’t do it for YOU doesn’t mean she’s being “hyped” up __/

    @Lisa, You are always hating on JoJo smh…

    @-, I’m not. Why can’t I have my own opinion? Why does that qualify as “hating”. I can somewhat agree with what Maya is saying. But I honestly do believe that she’s being praised above her quality. Again, it’s my opinion. I am not asking anyone to agree with me. So I suggest you stop telling me how to feel or what to think. I personally have nothing against JoJo. I am just not into her artistry and like I stated previously, do not believe she is as special as people are making it seem. For the third time; it’s my opinion. Just so you don’t get “hating” confused with “having a mind and a voice of my own”.

    @Lisa, I totally understand. I love JoJo but I’m definitely not gonna call you a hater just because you dislike her. Maybe if you said she couldn’t sing a note, is an awful person or something but that’s exactly what it is your opinion.

    Just like I dislike Mariah Carey’s music but I would never say she can’t sing.

    She’s not your cup of tea so pour it into my cup, right?

    @-, and just so you know; I never said JoJo can’t sing. Never. She can sing. When it comes to the vocals, she’s a strong artist. However, I feel like that’s all there is to it. I’d bump some of JoJo’s songs, but she has never blown me away. It’s funny that you always come so strong, when I have never said anything about this woman that would indicate that I hate her. Is it really necessary for me to write a complete essay in order for you to not mix shit up? Come on, now… Let’s start relaxing a little. Not everyone is focused on stanning or hating. Some people just listen to music and go on from there. I happen to be one of those people.

    Jay Fuller’s Marvin’s Room version was hot too the way he twisted Jojo’s around,but Jojo just set the tone for this song and made it her own as well as more

    Well, you were afraid to use the F-Word, well I hope you don’t think that you should now just because this song enjoyed success. A vulgar word coming from a woman (except rappers, of course) may easily be seen as inappropriate, especially from someone looking that beautiful. This is my take on this.

    @C94B, In a way I agree , I love JoJo’s Version & even tho I don’t like that word I don’t mind as long as it’s not often (+ its supposed 2 B bitter & say what we r really thinking)
