J. Cole is taking his buzz to the bank. The Roc star is set to make a big splash on the albums chart next week with his debut.
Cole World: The Sideline Story, the long-awaited album from the North Carolina MC, is surpassing label expectations and is on track to sell 225,000-250,000 copies in its first week, reports HITS Daily Double. This would land him at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, knocking off current champ Tony Bennett.
The album, which features collaborations with Jay-Z, Drake, Missy Elliott, and Trey Songz, holds at No. 1 on iTunes, outselling Blink-182 and Adele.
Some stores have already sold out of the CD, according to Cole. “Yall sold out so many stores today. Itunes it for now, stores will re-up tomorrow. We on pace. Much Love!” he tweeted to his fans.

@Ricardo,
Yeah on touring.
J.Cole wrote all his stuff & produced 80% so he’ll make more then all of them off his album(including anyone on YM). Plus his touring just got up & most of his shows is sold out. I’m going to one Friday. Wiz makes alot off of merchandise & the label he’s on is some what of an indie label so Wiz business is mostly handled from his team, most artist (And all the ones who are along with him) get a few dollars per head at a concert some of them not even that much. Wiz gets like $15 a head. Plus this dude lives on tour. I was shock that his album didn’t sell more than it did. I’ve been to his shows & his fans are all races & ages. 2 me he’s like the male version of Nicki Minaj in regards to fan bases. He had sold out arena shows b-4 his album dropped. Wiz is alot more commercial than Cole & most these other artist 2.

Imagine that, a artist selling being themselves. No dumbing down their lyrics (Drake), relying on gimmicks (Nicki), using force fed singles (B.o.B), or rapping about simple minded crap (Wiz).
J Cole is winning, he sold records being himself and the beauty of that is he doesn’t have to keep up a facade or a gimmick. He is selling himself like how Pac, Jay, Nas, Kanye, etc sold themselves.
He also doesn’t have to stay trendy like these other artist. No need to worry about being the next Nelly, Ja Rule, Lil Jon,etc.

@ZX, drake is not touching j. cole when it comes to lyrical skills (talking bout cole’s the one who dumbed down his lyrics smh) and always has since day one, and this is coming from someone who listened to both their earlier work. Plus, who cares if cole’s singles didnt break top 20 charts, that dont make drake better than j. cole as an artist. Smash hits has nothing to do w/ pure talent nor the quality of the music, which is what matters.

@mike, JCole has been touring in America and overseas for 2 years, plus he opened for BIG artists (Jay Z, Rihanna) and a successful rapper whose fans he might share (Drake). This builds a following and his album is true to his following. Wiz had a HIT single and people don’t buy albums for singles. His mixtapes DON’T sound like his album so his cult-following fans (screaming “Taylor Gang or Die” ) couldn’t really support his album.
If you attend a J.Cole concert or see an event the lines outside, the crying fans, the hyped guys, will all show that he has a strong fanbase waiting to support him to prove people like you wrong. The most he/his label would buy would be 1,000 copies (IF that), but not hundreds of thousands. They don’t have anything to prove. It’s not like Jay Z is saying “J.Cole, J.Cole!” everywhere he goes. If he’s not worth money the label would drop him and ignore it , they wouldn’t spend money on it. Look at his music videos..plus he produces his own music…Roc nation isn’t even giving him a budget there. C’mon guy.

I am so amazed at how people are hating on J. Cole’s success, when J. Cole makes good music. Even if Roc Nation bought all of J.Cole’s albums, he still sold less than Lil Wayne, and Drake who are far more popular than him, but J.Cole’s new album is far better than Tha Carter IV. J. Cole deserves any success that comes his way. J.Cole sold 250,000 copies in his first week, which means his new album is close to being certified gold. That is good numbers for a rookie rapper, considering most people don’t buy albums anymore. Most of the time when people do buy albums, they buy albums from artists who put out terrible music. Every once in a while, people buy albums from good artists who don’t put out bad music. It seems like J.Cole is following in the footsteps of Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Mos Def which means he will have a longer, successful career. Nas is not selling a whole lot of records anymore, but Nas can always make great albums, and still make good money. It is not always about commercial, mainstream success, it comes down to making good music. J. Cole’s new album got good reviews, and that matters.
