Rap-Up.com || Kanye West Debuts Womenswear Collection at Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West is used to being a front row fixture at fashion shows, but on Saturday, he was backstage. The rapper-turned-designer payed homage to his mother, the late Donda West, with the debut of “Dw by Kanye West,” his first womenswear collection during Paris Fashion Week.

The star-studded audience included designers such as Riccardo Tisci, Alexander Wang, and Jeremy Scott, and celebrities Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and Ciara, who tweeted, “KANYE is A GENIUS- TONIGHT was MONUMENTAL.”

Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in da Paint” and Common’s “The Light” played as models strutted down the runway wearing Kanye’s creations. Mr. West walked out to take a bow at the end, wearing a simple white T-shirt, black jeans, and Nike sneakers.

very modern, very kanye. the fur, i find, was an act of design defiance & a crystal clear translation of kanye’s “i do what i want” attitude. loved this entire collection from design concepts to model casting. superb first collection & a stunning design debut.

Ok, it’s not bad. I thought It’ll be over the top, but it’s just ok. Nothing too extra for starters. The shoes are the BUSINESS in this collection. I think menswear is more so his alley, and I think he’ll have better success. Regardless, it’s very impressive. S/O to his team

It’s not bad for his first collection. But this was the wrong place to present this. He should have presented this at New York Fashion Week. The critics are going to slay him for the fitting. It’s a bit off. It certainly didn’t live up to it’s hype.

Well, I can see why it would be considered confusing. Fur in S/S ’12 collection, mmm… Some of the pieces are OK. Nothing that eye-catching, but he’s learning. There are designers who study for years and have not showed at Paris, Milan or London and they have considerably more experience. I think 2 collections on from this and his stuff will be great.
