Sean Paul is taking his dancehall sound international with his new album. The Jamaican superstar spoke with Rap-Up TV about returning to music with help from Akon, Stargate, DJ Ammo, Benny Blanco, and Kelly Rowland, who appears on the cut “How Deep.” “It’s similar to ‘Got 2 Luv U’ with Alexis Jordan,” said Sean of the Stargate-produced, Ester Dean-penned tune. “It’s definitely a dancehall track.”
The Mohawk-sporting singer has collaborated with some of music’s biggest female stars including Beyoncé, Keyshia Cole, and Eve, but he considers his most memorable collaboration to be Rihanna, who he worked with on “Break It Off” from 2006s A Girl Like Me. During her visit to Jamaica, Sean took the Barbados beauty to check out the beaches and nightlife. “We spent a couple days just chilling out. I took her to the Bob Marley museum, which is something she always wanted to do,” he shared.
Sean has been keeping up with the latest in music and names Wiz Khalifa, Roscoe Dash, and Nicki Minaj among his favorites. “The things she talks about [are] never boring to me. She’s really doing her thing. I’m proud of her,” he said of the Young Money diva. “I think she’s one of the best rappers right now.”
The fifth album from Sean Paul is due next year featuring the singles “Got 2 Luv U” and “She Doesn’t Mind.”
