Rap-Up.com || New Music: Coldplay f/ Rihanna

Rihanna rocks with Coldplay on the enchanting “Princess of China,” a cut off the British band’s new album Mylo Xyloto, in stores October 24.

The pop starlet imagines a fairy tale ending to a romance while dueting with frontman Chris Martin on the synth-heavy production. “I could have been a princess, you’d be a king/ Could have had a castle and worn a ring, but no, you let me go,” sings a disappointed RiRi before chanting the lingering hook.

“We had this song called ‘Princess of China’ about two years ago that I always was secretly wanting to offer to Rihanna to sing,” Martin Rolling Stone. “The sweep of the album came together and this song really fit as a sort of damaged loved song, and so after about six months of not feeling brave enough, we finally made contact with her and asked if she’d sing on it.”

Martin, who proposed the collaboration to Rihanna at his New Year’s show in Las Vegas, calls her vocals “by far the best bit of singing on the album.”

@pookie, i love this genre. i love coldplay. this sucks. it’s hard to believe that the band that made ‘the scientist’ could make a song this bad.
if coldplay is gonna continue using these insanely commercial beats instead of beautifully watered down piano melodies, the world will shed a tear for one of the greatest bands to grace the charts.

the song is ok. i have to relisten to it again. but what genres of music has rihanna done? a lil bit of rnb, pop/dance pop, but i mean thats it besides reggae. other than that, this song isnt that much different than pop. i mean its not like she is doing gospel, and heavy metal and jazz and traditional rnb and country. i mean everything she is doing can fall into the pop category at the grammys

The song itself sounds incredible but I’d rather hear a smoother female voice, even if it was someone largely unknown. I don’t think Rihanna’s voice goes with everything, especially a song like this. But Coldplay obviously disagrees and here is the proof. The song’s pretty cool regardless, though.
