Mateo gave concertgoers a peek into the future of R&B at his headlining show at The Roxy in West Hollywood on Thursday night (Oct. 20). The R&B singer-songwriter, who will release his debut album on Kerry “Krucial” Brothers’ label Krucial Noise, performed a nearly hour-long set following openers Dawn Richard and Stacy Barthe.
“This is not only my time, it’s our time,” he told the packed crowd. “Just persevere and keep it going.”
While seated at his glowing piano with an illuminated “M” behind him, Mateo impressed with cuts off his latest mixtape Love & Stadiums, debuted new material from his upcoming album, and thrilled with covers of Kanye West’s “Power” and Chris Brown’s “Beautiful People.”
He closed with Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and his Alicia Keys-assisted single “Say It’s So,” as a roomful of new fans looked on.
I’m glad Mateo is finally starting to get some mainstream love! He has some classics already, no album out. Everybody fo on youtube and search “Get To Know Me” & “Underneath The Sky”. AMAZING songs!
He mad a great decision by signing with Krucial. Krucial created Alicia’s sound. He’s in good hands. He’ll have a great career….so far I’m loving his music. His recent mixtape is one of my favorite album.
