Rap-Up.com || Video: JoJo – ‘Disaster’

“Disaster” strikes in the video for the first single from JoJo’s third album Jumping Trains, due early next year. The pop star’s relationship with her boyfriend, played by British actor Rafi Gavron, takes a turn for the worst in the Benny Boom-directed clip.

“I am so excited about this video,” JoJo told Rap-Up TV. “I think it’s sexy and young and rock ‘n’ roll. It’s definitely gonna be a reintroduction for me.”

@Dominique, Not trying to be funny, but great ‘comeback’?! The song isn’t even on the charts. It’s good to see her not giving up and still making music but this definitely doesn’t count as a comeback. We’ll see how the single does and if the album even gets released. *shrugs*

Is this really the whole video. Cuz in some clips they should him hurt and Jo taking off his helmet. Plus there was no fire or stunts. But none the less it was dope.

This is it? This has been her first music video in 5 years and it’s no way to make her stand out. The video should have been way more badass with a title called “Disaster” instead of just her fighting with her boyfriend in different outfits. How can MTV play this between a Gaga & Britney video? Just won’t happen. Either Interscope needs to up their budget on Jo’s videos or someone needs to get a little more creative. Really Benny?!

@Disaster, I disagree. The video is great. not everyone needs to be over the top shocking. She delivers the song on this visual – a sign on a real talent. She doesn’t need to smoke 40 cigs at one time to drive her point across. Many need a circus act and you dummies fall for it. All this girl needs is a mic just like Adele!!

@Mi, we’re not dummies. I have never been into JoJo for the simple fact that she doesn’t entertain me whatsoever. I’m not a bandwagon type of person that is going to ride an artists’s dick, just because the rest does. JoJo can sing, there’s not doubt about that. But her delivery, songs and music videos are not unique nor interesting to me. That has nothing to do with being over-the-top and shocking it’s about creativity. There is a difference.

@Lisa, Some people are entertained by soulful singing, great music and lyrics, and a professional video. Others are entertained by body parts, autotune, and music videos set in space or in 2134. Adele’s album 21 has sold over 4 million copies in the US to date, a rare feat in these times, so I’m sorry to tell you, you’re simply just wrong.

@JoJo fan, some people are entertained by body parts, auto-tune and the other things you summed up. I’m not one of those people. Like I said, vocally she’s in business. As for the rest; she’s just boring to me. I am not wrong. Adele, for instance, is an amazing singer, with a unique voice. Adele is the type of artist that knows how to grab my attention and keep it. But JoJo… Her singing is good. But her voice does not have that rough edge or that one tweek that makes it stand out from the rest, her lyrics are generic as fuck. Same old, same old. And her music videos are generic as well. She argues with the dude, she’s heartbroken… What’s new?
Look, it’s clear to me that you love JoJo, as you should. But it gets on my nerves that you and other JoJo-fans refuse to take other people’s point of view into consideration to come to the conclusion that we’re not all dummies or blinded by superficiality, some of us just want more than just some good vocals and a cute music video. You can’t tell anybody that they’re wrong for that. Just like you’re not wrong for liking JoJo. Loyalty is a good quality in a fan, but make sure you stand up to the right people.

I’m kinda on the fence with her doing all these RnB covers and has a POP single. Kind of a let down she needs to do RnB and Soul. The video was ok I wanted more from her. I love JoJo none the less rooting for her.

@Created, Disaster is essentially an R&B record. The instrumentation may not be R&B, but the melody certainly is, as well as the vocal technique of course. Bottom line is, she needs to sell records, and this single, IMO, appeals to R&B and pop fans alike.

@-, Pop just means popular. I agree with JoJFan. Every song Jojo sings, she delivers it as an R&B song. The guitars in this song makes you think it is more pop/rock but at the core, this is an R&B song…that is how the singer is delivering it. I LOVE IT!! Suits radio just fine.

This video is pretty damn good. The mixtape was a sign of her growth in terms of musical maturity. I am so happy to see that she is doing big things. Now it is up to us as fans to request this song on the radio, follow her on twitter, pay to see her live, buy her song on iTunes, buy JUMPING TRAINS when it debuts… Let’s make JoJo’s come back be amazing.

She mentioned in an interview that the accident ended up not working with the lyrics so she decided to take it out. She didn’t want it to look like she was breaking up with the guy b/c he had a horrible accident. “Disaster strikes by I’m alright cuz my love is on his way”….I guess that makes sense.
